Are the plugins that are included with the default installation documented anywhere beyond the text in their web UI preferences? Those that have no prefs have no explanation.
Its what displays a clock (+ date if you choose 2 line mode - hence date and time) when the player is "off". You can choose to see this at the time any other screensaver is show though by changing the player prefs via the settings menu or player web page.

Oh, the screensaver. I guess if it said "Date and Time Screensaver" it would have been obvious. I didn't realize it was a plugin.

Screensavers are a specific type of Plugin. Only three screensavers are
built-in:
"none" - just dims the display
"now playing" - simply jumps to 'now playing' screen
"now playing (jump back on wake)" - special version of above that goes back to
previous mode on ir input.
All others are created by plugins. The DateTime plugin was created as a simple
example when screensavers were first introduced. DateTime Screensaver can be
disabled from the server settings->plugins list. The change from "Datetime
Screensaver" to "Date and Time" was only made on June 20 as part of change
3458. I guess Dean felt it was better to use real words instead of something
made up, like "datetime".
