Hello

When I first got into all digital music playback it was with my Dell 1525 Windows PC with digital audio output into a Music Hall dac. It sounded great but I noticed a lot of "digital" burps so I started looking around for alternatives. Most of the players required a PC to get the music from and I wanted to get the PC out of the picture. I found the SBT with its' USB hard drive option and picked one up right away. All my music is on the USB hard drive in WAV format and some FLAC. It was perfect for me, good sound and no burps. I've noticed that the burps were starting to come back so I went back to server software ver 7.5.3 and there were no more burps. After couple of weeks I again went back to the latest version 7.2.2 I believe and noticed the burps again. I'm thinking of going back 7.5.3 again. Has anyone else noticed this with the 7.2.? version?

Thanks

What I'm meaning by digital burps are slight pauses in the audio and they only occur at the very end or very beginning of a tune. My library is about 300 GB on a USB drive with its' own power supply and not powered by the SBT

I keep a Touch on my desk at work and swap out 32 gig SD cards every few weeks. I notice the same symptom. It's random, but sometimes once it starts the only fix is to pull the power plug and start from scratch.

It's a bit like losing gapless playback, only as you note it doesn't actually occur between tracks but rather at the very end of the outgoing or beginning of the incoming.

I've never experienced anything like this at home where the players are all fed by an Ubuntu server.

I also notice some "clicks" when playing files, that occurs about once every 5 or 10 minutes. Very annoying. Every time I try to reproduce the noise by listening back on the track and the click is no longer there (sometimes the click is reproducible, meaning it is not SBT's fault).
I only use tinySC (SBT local server). I installed Triode's EDO utility hoping to solve this problem (the possibility to tweak buffer sizes may be helful). So if anybody has a solution, please share with us.

what type of files are you playing? FLAC, ALAC, m4a, mp3, etc. And are any 24/96 or 24/192?

I play 16/44 FLAC files, on a SD Card plugged in SBT (local server).

Hmmm, that's good as those should be handled natively by the TOUCH with no transcoding, etc. needed. Sorry, but I don't have any suggestions on solving problem (I don't use the SD or USB function in Touch). Have you tried playing the same files on a USB jump drive instead? Same outcome? Same problem with all SD cards?

It seems I solved most (if not all) of this problem by installing EDO utility, and setting buffer to "large".

that's good to hear. But it shouldn't be at all necessary in order to play 16/44.1 FLAC files on a TOUCH. Something odd is happening. Perhaps because of TinyLMS.

Do the files by any chance have embedded cover art? That can add a significant amount of overhead to TinyLMS.

There is no embedded tag or cover art. Some directories have a cover.jpg file, that's all.

Hi

Just a thought, but what is the flac compression level on files that cause problems? There has been issues in the past with older players with heavily compressed flacs if I recall correctly. If your flacs are compressed more than level 5 this may be the issue?

The Touch may not be keeping up with the SD card access, flac decompression and all the other activities when it's running as it's own server.

Anyway just a wild guess

Cheers
