Artists from compilations not in artist list

Hello,

have a few compilations listed under Various Artists in the LMS web interface. What's weird though is that the individual artists that are tagged in the complilation albums do not appear in the artists list.

Is there a way to get an Artist to appear in the Artist list even if it only appears in a compilation album?

This works for me but only if there are other albums for that artist. In the first picture I have searched for "gillian" and this is the result. It works the same for me if I browse by artist and select "Gillian Welch". The first album listed is a compilation album in which Ms. Welch is listed on a couple of tracks.

You also have to select "List albums by all artist for that album" (the second picture).

If I remember correctly when I have selected "list complilations under each artist" composers were also included in the artist list, so I changed that setting.

my memory is that for SqueezeOS devices (touch, radio, controller, SqueezePlay) there is a "bug" that will show composers in artist listings (as you indicate) even though "composers" is NOT checked in the settings. Composer does NOT show in the regular LMS webgui listing of artists.

You are correct. I just changed the setting and the results are as expected, but I now remembered why I changed the setting.

There is a valid reason why most (but not all) of the artist who only show up on a compliation album in my collection, only show up on a compilation album. I don't wish to listen to them :-) and I don't want to see them in the artist list.

Anyway (to the O.P.) if you make the the same selections I have, the artist listed on the compilation will only show in the artist list if you have another album by that artist. Selecting "list complilations under each artist" will get you what you want.

wouldn't it be better if LMS just simply allowed a user to switch on the fly between A and AA? or even better allowed you to create your own custom sort criteria?

What would really be nice/useful would be to take that initial item in the web settings with regard to listing COMPOSERS, etc. with the ARTISTS and to add ARTISTS and AA to it, so one could select exactly what shows up in the ARTIST menu be it one or all of the tags. I would then make that setting feature accessible from the device/controller, so that you could change these items on the fly.

I've already did something similar with Custom Browse, but rather than switch on the fly I end up with multiple menus to address A and AA separately. It functions, but wouldn't be necessary if the above items were implemented.
