Hey folks.

It's been a while in coming, but version 0.10 of AlienBBC has been released in the normal place (http://www.mrtickle.org).

The major change this time is a cut to using 'mplayer' rather than 'alienstream' by default. This makes the install much, much easier, but also means that stream startup time is vastly reduced. Also - mplayer is available on Windows, which means that hurdle is now a little lower (but we're not there yet, windows folks, so don't get all excited!).

Equally, for low CPU usage people, transcoding to mp3 as an intermediate format can be disabled, and there's an additional 'Other Streams' menu which carries a few other streams that people have suggested might be worth carrying. Eventually - we'll have a submission system for this portion to allow users to nominate streams they'd like to see have a permanent place on everybody's Squeezebox ;)

So... get it while it's hot!

Best Regards,

Jules

Jules,

You're a genius. After struggling many times with previous releases (and
failing) to get this running on my Mandrake box, I tried this release
using mplayer and it pretty much worked out-of-the-box. The only problem
I had (which is not your problem at all), was that I built mplayer from
source and there is a bug in gcc3.2 that stops it compiling, see:

www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/212331

but the advice in comment 12 fixed that. After that I followed your
instructions and it just worked. Great work. Thanks.
