I've just installed the latest nightly (23-09) and it does appear to have
fixed the empty playlists problem.
It now seems that I have a system that works more or less fully and I for
one, would like to offer my thanks to everyone that has worked so hard to
bring this about. I'm not going to play with nightlies any more - going to
leave that to the experts - I will wait patiently for the next formal
release and I promise not to "play" (except music of course)!!

check the player settings for brightness. there is an option for auto-dim,

most likely. the patch is in now, so the nightlies should clear it up.
