When I navigate to Search using the Touch (from Now Playing display, swoosh right, menu slide down, Search) all that appears is a scroll wheel that won't respond to any input from the Touch (but will respond to the remote).
How do I get the "keyboard" to appear on the Touch screen? It appeared a few days ago but seems to be hiding now.
SBS 7.6, r31601 XP
If you are using the remote you get the controller style list to use with the arrows . Or it jumps right to the letters if you use the aplhanumeric keys on th ir-remote.
If you are using the Touch screen you get the pop up keyboard .
But you can get this situation if you chose the large text-skin as Touch skin ?
This skin is really developed for the remote so it's seems to lack some features when used as touch skin.
For example no pop-up keyboard.
wich fw version is your Touch.
Btw you are running an old 7.6 beta ?
Upgrade to latest 7.6 beta if the problems is still there file a bug report ?

Thank you, after a bit of swooshing left and right etc it turned out that I had selected the Large-text skin. Going to Settings, Screen, Select Skin, Touch Skin, then selecting Small Text Skin restored my keyboard search.
To answer other questions :
Touch fw version is 7.5.1 r9218
SBS 7.6 r31601 for Windows is the last version of 7.6 that I have that does not fill the server log with ICU errors (refer to http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83890, a thread that you are familiar with!)

Something is odd anyway why have not your Touch upgraded to a 7.6 firmware ?
You are running a beta server , but not the associated firmware .
Your fw is for the 7.5.1 release
Windows is different in some ways , you have probably turned of auto updates directly so you never got any new fw for you Touch . it appear to not only disable server updates but also fw updates.
or is it not conected to internet at all .

Once more you are correct. In SBS Settings, Advanced, Software Updates and Automatic Download were turned off. I have just turned them on and restarted the server. What happens next ? Will the 7.6 firmware be downloaded ? Can it be downloaded independently to the server software ? I don't want the ICU error messages again so am reluctant to load a newer version of the server.

You can dl the fw independently and put it and it's version file in a directory in your sbs install and restart thhe server and the then the Touch then it should want to upgrade.
But I'm at work ;) so I cant point you to the right place in windows right now . Probably the update folder in the cache ?
But here is the fw
http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.6.0/
You want these files .
[ ] fab4.version.sha 10-Jan-2011 06:53 55
[ ] fab4_7.6.0_r9284.bin 10-Jan-2011 06:51 35M
it was called fab4 during the dev .
There is also a way using ans SD card

Mynb, thank you again.
Downloaded the fab...bin files into C:\Program Files\Squeezebox\server\Firmware , which did not have any fab...bin files although other hardware was well represented.
Restarted the server and my Touch immediately asked permission to install new software.
It now shows Firmware: 7.6.0-r9284.
I am intrigued why the Touch software is not included in the server install package while SB3, Boom, Controller etc are all included.
Again, thank you for your help.
Edit: What about baby.version and jive.version ? I suspect these are only needed for the Touch's internal server.
