View Full Version : Recent 7.6 firmware semi-bricks my Touch

The saga is documented here.
Bottom line is that 7.6 nightlies only work for me with 7.5.2 (or earlier) firmware - any attempt to install RECENT 7.6 firmware renders the IR, Touch screen and proximity sensor inoperative (everything else works).
This is consistently repeatable.

What can I do to help investigate/debug this?

I've not had this (or any remotely similar)issue with the Touch before.
Cheers
Phil

I haven't had any similar problems with any of the 7.6 firmwares. My Touch is running 7.6.0 r9056.

You recently did a factory reset and reinstalled the 7.5.0 r8837 firmware. What changes did you make after the reset? I typically make a dozen or more - changing the name, the wallpaper, screensavers, brightness, the Home menu, enabling SSH and storage sharing, and some others. Maybe there's something in there that is unique and causing this. Perhaps doing another factory reset and running with all default settings (for as long as you can stand it) would give different behavior. If it runs OK, make configuration changes one at a time.

Wired or wireless?

Are you using the internal server?

Are you using mysb.com at all?

Is your local SbS server always running?

Are you using any particular apps?

Where are you finding that the proximity sensor isn't working? It was my understanding that the proximity sensor isn't used at all for any ui functionality. The screen should change from large to small only when touched.

Please file a bug. I've already filed one for Radio, which actually might be related. But you still want to file one for Touch too.

Jim,
I made no post-firmware install changes.

I'm using SBS exclusively (XP sp3) - it's not SBS anyway - the problem manifests without SBS running.
Problem manifests regardless of wi-fi vs ethernet(which is my normal method).
My installation is really very vanilla...

#16475 created.

Frustratingly 16475 remains unconfirmed... problem persists with 9057 firmware. This is getting REALLY tedious.
HOW CAN I HELP?

Do you want any of the inbetween version to try with or do you already save copies of all *.bin files like me .

Maybe start from a very old fw and upgrade 1 version at the time until it breaks (or not) .

I can not confirm , my radio was in this state but it recovered controller or Touch is ok for me

Mnyb,
The oldest one I have saved that works is 8837. If you have any after that it would be very helpful as I can try them until the problem appears - that SHOULD narrow it down
thanks for your help

Hi there

Thanks everyone for helping with this issue. It looks like we figured it out. Also see bug 16475.

A fix is in 7.6 r9072. Please give it a try when it comes available.

Thanks
Felix

Many thanks, MNYB. You should take a look at bug 16475 to see what's been happening. It's very strange... (to me anyway) :-)

Saw that one ,weird proximity by ir sensor/transmitter what an idea ?
How much system resources would it have used if it worked ?

Recon that you will be fine at 9072

Btw someone crashed his controller at 9069 in a similar fashion (but it does not have proximity so something else is going on there) better wait for 9072 then

Yes, that's what I'm waiting for - in the meantime, it's all working fine again with 9066 (plus my editing of the LUA Applet!).
thanks again for your kind help.
