I have two questions:-
- Does slimserver 5.3.0b1 work with FreeBSD 5.2.1? As I am
getting "/usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libc.so.4" not found"
when starting slimserver.pl
- Where does the unix version store its settings and is the file
compatible with windows? I have a windows slimserver.perf and want to
copy the settings over.
Many thanks in advance

You need to install the misc/compat4x port if you want to use the
downloads directly as they contain binaries compile on 4.x. The
audio/slimserver port uses ports for its modules so they are fully
native. Adding a nightly port is on my todo list, but not very high.

By default it's stored in ~/slimserver.conf. In the FreeBSD port, I
store it in /var/db/slimserver/slimserver.conf since it's a generated
file.

I symlink'ed the libc.so.5 to libc.so.4 and that stopped it moaning and
seems ok. However it won't play on my squeezebox but will on softsqueeze.
So I don't think the server is at fault something to do with the player,I've
forgot the player and still no joy. The percentage bar and time just
stays @ 0:00, any ideas?

Yeah I found in /root/.slimserver.perf, copied the windows one and
changed all the paths (obviously).
