Hi Audio gurus,

I purchased 2 SB duets from ebay and they are not powering on. Also after charging the remote, this is also not powering on. I removed the battery and inserted it back again and it powers on for a sec and dies out. I was saving for this and so excited about getting this product and now this has become a nightmare. I have tried everything from the book from checking the adaptor voltage with the use of a multimeter to googling to get an answer.

Friends please help!

You have 2 duets, and both controllers won't power on?
There have been problems with the controller dock not properly connecting to the controller, so not charging the battery. You might try playing with the orientation of the controller in the charging cradle. If you can actually get the controller "on" and in the cradle, you should see an icon which shows that the battery is charging (the battery indicator should show an animation which indicates charging, and you sould get a short tone to indicate it's in the dock).

Thanks tcutting for your reply. I actually charged it in the cradle but there is no icon or charging indicator nor there is any sort of tone.

Can you tell me does the light come on the receiver cause mine won't.

Have you installed Squeezebox Server (SBS) on your computer and connected everything upto your modem/router? If so does SBS see your receiver?

The "light" on the receiver has several possible states. Under "normal" circumstances, when everyting is configured, the front LED is not on when the Receiver is powered, but is connected to a server and is in the "off" state. When the receiver is in the "on" state, the LED is white, but not too bright, and when playing it is bright white.
Normally to initially configure the receiver you would hold the front button until the LED starts a "fast" flashing red. Let the button go, which causes the receiver to do a reset, and then it will go to a slower red flash, which is when it's ready to be configured (normally with the Controller). It is also possible to configure in this state with the net-udap utility which a third part wrote. There are other LED states which mean different things. I think there is also a test mode which should cause the LED to cycle through it's various states.

Presently the unit is dead! Took it to my friends place who has a SB Duet and tried all the possibilities. No luck!

Can you suggest what options I have...

I intend to get in touch with the ebayer who sold me these 2 defective pieces. It's been 50 days now since my uncle got it for me from the U.S. He has a cent% rating and I can only hope for the best...

SB Duet- Dead

factory reset the receiver:

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SBR_front_button_and_LED

factory reset the controller:

power-off the controller, remove the battery, count 20, and reinstall the battery. Press and hold the "+" while pressing "home/power."

Sorry to hear about your problems.

Historically there have been problems with the charging cradles, the small pins in the bottom not touching the controllers connectors properly.

But the batterys life time have also been a problem, in many cases they have not lasted more than 12-15 months, then they have to be replaced .

So the controllers seems salvageable, either by getting new batteries and possible new cradles .

But your receivers seems dead if they don't even respond to factory reset ?? :-(

You have to have the controller on in order to see the charging icon and hear sounds while it's charging.

Guys I'm overwhelmed by your sincere responses.

Pski- Thanks for sending me the factory rest links, I will keep you posted.

Mnyb- Thanks for the insight for SB history

Avta- presently the control is dead

But the good news is that the ebayer responded to me (after 50 days) to return the defective units. So tomorrow after I try the factory reset and if it still doesn’t work I will ship it back to him….

Hey Helium, sorry to hear about your problems. I was here searching for answers to another problem when I saw your post and it reminded me of when I first purchased my SB Duet a year ago. I had exactly the same problems and tried solving them on and off over a couple of weeks. I then discovered the problem... the controller battery was in the wrong way round!

Now I'm not saying that this is the cause but it is worth double checking as the battery fits in both ways round - I just hadn't put the contacts on the battery and controller together, even though I'd double and triple checked this.

Im desperation I had tried everything from the book and finally returned the product when a friend was returning back to the U.S after 60 days. I have to admit I was not sure whether I would get back my refunded but the ebayer had some ethics to keep, he refunded by money. So now I bought a SB classic from the ebay.india. New Story...........
