PANDORA ALARM CLOCK - WAKE UP TO PANDORA

THE FOLLOWING POST IS NO LONGER VALID. LOGITECH RELEASED A TON OF UPDATES, AND EVENTUALLY (YEARS LATER) FIXED THE PROBLEM. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER.
NOW, YOU JUST ADD A PANDORA STATION AS A FAVORITE AND SET THE ALARM TO USE IT.

Using the SB Radio to wake up to Pandora isn't as easy as it should be. I've written up some tips to help make it work better than it does out of the box. I've tested everything mentioned on these forums and more, but nothing works 100% of the time. The best you can do is follow my tips below and if Pandora doesn't come on immediately, then it'll play after one snooze. My test results are in the second post.

Disconnecting your box from mysqueezebox.com is really important (use SB Server instead). Disabling mysqueezebox.com from syncing with your box will stop the website alarm settings from confusing your box.

If you're not using a Pandora playlist (saved as a favorite), you'll have to use "current playlist" and check what was playing last every night.

Changing the fallback alarm to something better than that loud, funky, default song was a big deal to me - I can't stand that song.

Here's how to disconnect your box from mysqueezebox.com and disable syncing with mysqueezebox.com:

1) Download SB Server from http://mysqueezebox.com/download and install it.

2) Go to "My Music" on your box and it should confirm with you that you want to connect to your computer (it'll show your computer's name, whatever that is).
You may need to open up the SB Server Control Panel and pick your Music Source from the Library Tab first.

3) Open up the SB Server Control Panel from your computer. Under the advanced tab, click on advanced settings. Under the mysqueezebox.com tab, change "enabled, keep player settings in sync" to "disabled..." (make sure to click "apply" before closing).

4) If you had an alarm set up before all this, you need to go delete it from mysqueezebox.com and then set it up again from your box after step 3.

Here's how to create a Pandora playlist to use for an alarm:

1) Decide on a Pandora station to wake up to and play a DIFFERENT station.

2) While that's playing, hit the back button, highlight the station you want to wake up to and HOLD the '+' button to add it to the playlist.

3) Pause the music.

4) Go to Now Playing and hit the big button. You should see the playlist. If you get Pandora options instead, go back to step 1.

5) Edit the playlist and remove everything except the wake-up station (using the '+' button), then save it as "Pandora". If your wake-up station was automatically removed, go back to step 1 and notice step 3.

6) Go back to the home menu and select My Music > Playlists > Pandora and save it as a Favorite.

7) Now in your alarm settings you'll have the option to use that favorite as the alarm sound.

Here's how to change the fallback alarm:

1) From your computer, download WinSCP (google it)

2) From your box, go to SETTINGS > ADVANCED > REMOTE LOGIN then ENABLE SSH

3) Login to WinSCP with the info that was shown when you enabled SSH
-Host name: 192.168.?.?
-Username: root
-Password: 1234
-File protocol: SCP

4) Find your way to /usr/share/jive/applets/AlarmSnooze/

5) Replace alarm.mp3 with any mp3 you want.

Does anyone know what kind of security the SB Radio has when it's completely open to the internet?

If you mean completely open, as in not connected via a router with NAT, I think the Radio itself has trivial security at best, and more likely no security. There's no firewall, and the root password is easily guessed.

Worse than guessable -- well known. But remote login is disabled by default and can be left that way. You can also change the root password (though firmware updates will probably reset it to "1234"). Radio is also susceptible to man-in-the-middle attacks and packet sniffing by other devices on the network.

Thanks. Remote login is still disabled so I'll continue with this little experiment.

I know there are a few threads about the alarm not working right, but what are you trying to wake up to? Few people actually mention that. Is Pandora the only program that causes alarm problems?

Okay. I'm officially done with this test. Nothing fixes this issue. Using the tips in the first post is the best you can do with the SB Radio. Until Logitech or anyone else can make an all-in-one solution, I might just use this box for it's speaker. I can connect my Android phone to it and open Pandora with the AppAlarm app.

AppAlarm works everyday (on a Droid Incredible).
