View Full Version : Last few seconds of song being cut off...
This is making me nuts... anywhere from 2 seconds to 30 seconds of the currently playing song is cut off by the Touch when it queues up the next song. I'm using the USB connection with an externally powered drive. The music was ripped as MPEG-4 Audio...
Any help would be appreciated. Also cross-fade is "off"
Thanks in advance.

when you say mpeg-4, do you mean AAC?

This is happening to me too! It doesn't happen with every track, but it happens often. Most of my music is in Apple Lossless.
Edited from the original where I made the mistake of saying AAC when I meant ALAC or Apple Lossless.

Phil,
Sorry for the delay... No they are Apple Lossless so it should work.
Random but regular.
Thanks
Tony
Is this using the built in server on the Touch or connected to the software?
Someone had an identical issue (last 10-15 seconds cut off) with WMA files a while back and it was related to his file transcoding settings (whatever he was running the software on didn't have WMA support codecs installed and the transcoding wasn't working properly).

In my case, the problem occurs with the Touch's onboard server. I haven't used the server over wifi much, but I'll try to get some testing in over the weekend. If the problem is due to encoding, I'm not sure what I can do to fix it. As I said, most of my music is in Apple Lossless encoded using iTunes, which doesn't have any options for that codec. Some of it was originally in FLAC transcoded using dbPoweramp, but I've had the problem with files originally ripped with iTunes.

I am getting the same problem.
I am playing apple lossless files (created using itunes) direct from an external USB drive into the touch.
It sounds great, but about half the songs I play lose the last 10 to 30 seconds.
If anyone finds a solution (other than re-ripping all my cds!) I'd be pleased to hear about it.
Richard
When this problem has come up before, it's related to transcoding (i.e. converting the file into a format that the player can handle natively) but the Touch (when used a server) doesn't do transcoding I think.
This page from the wiki suggests that 24 bit ALAC files aren't supported natively when using the Touch as a server (or it may just be out of date! - all user generated content).

Assuming you are all using the Touch as a server, are the ALAC files 16 or 24bit? iTunes created files does seem to be a common factor. I will create a few and have a test. Also, have you got crossfade on or off? I know the OP has it switched off.

Same here. 16 bit files with crossfade off.

Same here... 95% ALAC files, ripped using dBpoweramp (85%) or iTunes (15%).
No crossfade.
Running v. 7.5.1 r8732
Very unnerving as it seems to be completely random.

I have the same issue and stumbled onto this link in search of a solution. In the few times I've noticed it, it's usually missing the last couple seconds which would be a fade out and the next song kicks right in. Just a hard edit. I tested the same ALAC files on my iPod and it transitions just like the CD with a few seconds of silence between tracks like expected.

Same problem here. It cuts about 30 seconds off some ALAC songs (ripped/encoded by iTunes for Windows) on attached USB drive. I have crossfade off.
I'm curious if the song is ending early according to the countdown on the now playing screen.

Yes when it ends early it's both on the screen's countdown and the music gets chopped.
FWIW, I took the same USB drive (that is having problems when connected direcly to the Touch) and connected to the PC (i'm on now) and it works fine. I've been on a randon album mix for 30 minutes without a problem.
IMHO, It a software problem related to the Touch'd built-in server...
Is there a way to get this on the bug list, and what else can I do to help?

Tony,
you can raise the bug yourself at http://bugs.slimdevices.com/
the best way to help is to be very specific with your details so that others (notably QA at Logitech but also interested users/devs) can replicate and confirm.
that means including as many variables as you can (type of file, size of library, type of USB drive, number of players, sync or not). logfiles may also help if they show something.
teh bug process is in a sticky http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74846
I suspect I've experienced the same problem, but wasn't paying enough attention to confirm and its inconsistent with me. I'm having lots of other problems which may be overloading the CPU and therefore this may be another symptom but could equally be unrelated. If I capture anything I'll hunt down and add to your bug.
others can add their experiences and vote.

I am still getting this problem - so I have followed the helpful links and advice provided by DigitalMitch and raised a bug
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16191
To the rest of you suffering the same problem - please go and vote for the bug to confirm it is not just me having problems. Then hopefully it might get sorted
Richard.
I called Logitech yesterday and was told that this is a known issue with Apple Lossless and there will be a fix with the next software update in a couple of weeks. Evidently there is a beta version of this software that you can download now, although it will only have limited support from Logitech.
I too am experiencing this problem, albeit very sporadically. For the most part things are working fine here.
