Well I bought a SB3 instead and I'm very pleased with it - assuming you can find one.

Comparable in what way? Touch screen? Native AAC support? Built in server? Audio quality? LCD screen?

I'd suggest the tried and true SB3/Classic.

I've got myself a second hand controller for 100 euro. connected an old laptop to the stereosystem, and i've put squeezecenter and squeezeplay on it.

When the touch is available, i can just add it to setup. The laptop will be replaced by a small homebrew fanless atom D510 pc.

The controller will be a nice companion for the touch.....

But then again, I think the best unit from the Squeezebox line that fits what he wants to do would be the Touch ;=} Totally agree with JTF.

Unless of course he wants to spend a couple thousand dollars instead of waiting for a Touch!

To the OP: Hope you didn't cancel the order before posting and waiting for opinions, if you didn't cancel it yet, I wouldn't. Its worth the wait!

Urgh. Besides the price, none of the players seems to have a display. So if I want to see what's playing I'll have to carry the remote around all the time, or buy an extra remote for every room at $500 each? No thanks. :cool:

At least the MCX-P200 is not as ugly as a Sonos ZP90.

Yes, precisely my point. I just don't think there is anything else out there to compare to the Touch with regard to features and audio quality at that price point.

He said he couldn't wait, and impatience comes at a cost. ;)

Quite simply, nothing touch's a Touch! :)

I was thinking about this too. I am purchasing a second-hand Nokia N800 touch-screen wifi internet tablet on ebay for about $80. This will be the remote for my SB3 Classic and it can stand up by itself to display info. You could get two for less than $200. The N800s have larger screens than the Controller and the SB-Server has a web interface built just for them.

I think the real advantage to the Touch is the seamless implementation for consumers. It looks to be a terrific system. As a tech-savvy user, I enjoy less expensive and satisfying solutions like the N800.

Permission to speak freely? Damn that thing is ugly ! Ofcourse that does not say anything about the musical qualities.
