View Full Version : Erratic Slim after Power Outage/Windows Patch's
Hi All,
I have 2 SliMP3's powered by an XP Pro box running SlimServer 5.2.1,
the SliMP3's are running V2.3. Everything has been running well until I
had a power outage this Thursday. After restarting the XP machine,
which had gracefully shutdown due to the UPS my Slim Network started
acting erratic. I will also add that I took the opportunity to install
the latest Microsoft "Critical Updates" that were waiting for my
machine, there were 6 of them. I suspect this is the root of my
problem.
My symptoms;
- Slim will only play for about 10 to 20 seconds, while playing the
display flickers between the time and the "playing display", after 20 -
30 seconds the display goes blank for some time then cycles back to the
Clock display
- The time is not properly displayed, meaning it is not a active clock
like display as normal but shows the time with "fixed" seconds, then
updates 20 - 30 seconds later
- when attempting to play songs on the Slim in the Bedroom, the Family
Room Slim shows the playing display that is showing in the bedroom
(The players are not sync'd, verified in the Server settings)
Has anyone seen this before? I suspect the updates are responsible, but
I wanted to check the list before digging into the problem.
Thanks
Mike
It sounds like there are either two slimservers on your network talking
to your players, your server thinks that there are two players for each
hardware player or it's confusing the two players.
Make sure that there's only a single instance of slimserver and try
restarting it. Then confirm that there are two players listed in the
SlimServer web interface.

whilst not the same, I had a problem of confused slimp3s after a server
upgrade. I cured it by 'forgetting' the slimp3s from the web interface and
power-cycling them.

Thanks Dean & Graham,
I checked to make sure there was only one instance of the Slim Server,
there was. I went about taking Graham's suggestion of forgetting both
players, that is when I discovered that both devices had the same IP
Address. Something must have happened during the power outage...
Anyway, each Slim has been reset to it's original IP Address and all is
right with the world.
Thanks Guys!
Mike
