View Full Version : Volume level weirdness x2 with upgrade

Upgraded my SBC to 7.4.0 r7790 today without incident. Fooled around with new stuff for a while, couldn't figure out how to delete stuff from "My Apps" (answer: go to mysqueezebox.com), went to mysqueezebox.com, changed volume with the "remote control" window, changed volume on SBC and noted that the level is now accurate to 12 decimal places!

i.e., right after the upgrade the SBC volume popup showed a whole number (e.g. "40"). After changing volume via SN (or do we say MSB now?) the SBC display shows "40.909090909091". This is temporarily "fixable" if I turn the volume all the way down on the SBC, thereby making it "0". Then if I stick with making subsequent volume changes on the SBC, the numbers stay whole.

Observation #2: The thumbwheel is quite unresponsive when it comes to changing volume. It used to be "hit 'vol up' and rotate the wheel once" to increase volume quite a lot. Now I hit "vol up" and rotate the wheel once and I'm lucky to get one click/number's worth of volume change. If I perform these steps when the "Now Playing" screensaver is *not* showing (and the title is not scrolling), everything is okay.

Anybody else notice these issues?

Yes, I've noticed #2 when listening through headphones with thw SBC connected to SC 7.4 (well, SBS? (npi)). It really takes an effort to change the volume.

Yes, I've noted both things.

I had volume shown in .25 measures until I raised the volume to 100%.

Also, when changing volume with the scroll wheel, it seems that (when Now Playing showing) the first half turn does nothing. In general I think the controller is now less responsive to the scroll wheel. Or something... I frequently miss the targets and overshoot. This did not happen (as much) with the previous version, that's my feeling at least.

There are some user reporting that volume has a slow response on the now playing screen but is working fine when you are in other menu's

This was known already for 7.4 beta, and still is in the release?
Again, I am appalled at how Logitech works things...

EDIT: And to make matters worse! From the thread linked above:
"On the bright side, the 7.4.1 release will come out very shortly after 7.4.0,"
Another update! Heaven help us...

No need to panic 7.4.1 is an incremental small upgrade safe bugfixes, it does not alter functionality big time, the 7.x.x release are designed to be "as the release but with fixes" if i got it right :) a controller will prompt for an auto update when it's time for it, during the beta i've done it maybe 40 times without crash or hickups.

There is always an ongoing 7.x.x build that you can run if you want to .

Following that link led me to https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14162, where my #2 observation appears to be being addressed.

And I've just filed https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14448 for my observation #1.
