Bridged Network Configuration and range

Hi all,

I am rephrasing a question I asked earlier because it's looking like with all my blathering in my earlier post, the quesiton I was actually asking got lost in the shuffle.

I'm considering connecting my Squeezebox Receiver to my wired
ethernet network, thereby having the Squeezebox Controller use an ad-hoc connection to the Receiver for it’s network connection.

Can anyone who has done this tell me what the range is like with this configuration?
