I am looking for the ability to be able to connect to and play the content on a CD that I put into the drive of my file server \ squeezecentre server. Friends come to the house and bring a Cd that is either a regular music Cd or a RW CD with MP3 content.
At the momenet I have to rip it then rescan.
I want be able to put the cd into the drive and then via my Transporter\SB3 play the music on the CD....
CDplayer plugin will work for audio CDs. The CD drive must be on the same system as SC.
It will not work for CD-R/CDROM/CD-RW with MP3s

You may need to go to end of thread to get latest version. Currently I have't got a version for 7.3 ready.
Without the plugin mentioned above, yes, you need to rip the CD. However, you don't have to rescan.
If you are not using the iTunes or MusicIP integration, you should have the option to browse by folder. If this is so, just rip the CD someplace under you main music library directory. Then, from the remote or the web browser, use browse by folder rather than genre, artist, etc. Navigate to the directory that contains the files you just ripped and say play all.
Depending on the size of your library, it is the rescan that is most inconvenient - not the ripping of the CD.
The one drawback is that after you delete the files, the entries remain in your database until you perform a rescan. But you can defer that rescan until after your guest has left or you've gone to bed.
After ripping you do not need to rescan - just browse to the folder containing the newly ripped files and they will be added to the database immediately.
