View Full Version : iTunes: Movies playlist and others pointless?
Hello
I just activated the iTunes support in order to get playlists. What irritates me is that I not only get the actual iTunes playlists (called "Playlists" in iTunes), but also the "Filme" collection (which translates to "Movies"), the "Einkäufe" playlist ("Purchases"?), the entire "Musik" (Music) and the entire "Mediathek" (all Media files) playlist.
Possibly the problem is that because my iTunes is german, the playlists don't get filtered by the importer.
Is this "working as designed", or is there an error somewhere?
Thanks! Martin

You can listen to movies. Sounds odd, but some users do this.

Hmm... don't see neither Purchases, nor Programs, TV Shows, Radio or Ringtones. What do you have in the Purchases playlist (in iTunes)?

True, but then one could manually create an iTunes playlist for the movies one wants to listen to, and get it synced. The "Filme" playlist is one that I can't influence or delete: It always contains all movies that iTunes knows of.

There must be at least one item in the playlist, otherwise you won't see it synced. So if you never purchased anything in iTunes store, your "Purchases" playlist will be empty and thus not synced.
Anyway, my suggestion would be to only sync the "real" playlists, i.e. the ones that are created manually.
On first sight this is not so easy, since they apparently can't be distinguished in the xml file from each other. So one would have to filter them by keyword, which is quite possibly what is done (and not working as soon as the playlists are named in German).

I'm having this same issue, except in the english/US installation. I have Audiobooks (which I'm okay with I guess), iTunes DJ, Movies, Podcasts, Purchased (on X, Y and Z), TV Shows, so in total 8 playlist items showing up that aren't my music playlists. anyone know how I can filter this out?

Not yet. But I've targetted an old enhancement request for 7.4:
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2611
This wasn't about those automatic playlists, but the idea is the same: let
the user configure some playlists to be ignored. Could you please add a
complete list of your playlists above, with a description what they do?
And it would be great if you could attach your iTunes XML file to the bug.
Thanks!

Hi Michael - just PM me with an email address and I'll send you the couple related files.
Thanks for your help!
I've implemented this feature in revision 26372. It tries to use some "intelligent" defaults, using localized strings from iTunes. Please give it a try and tell me whether it's working for you or not. I'm particularly interested in users of non-English systems. Thanks!

Hi Michael - greatly appreciate your going after the issue. I am unable to find this build. I'm currently using on the Mac 7.4 (26358) which was downloaded last night. I checked the webpage with the nightly builds and didn't see the new version (you refer to 26372). do you have a link you could post to this build?
Thanks!
