Probably because you have WOL (wake on lan) activated - your computer registers a packet on the lan sent to it, and awakens from stand-by.
you can probably find a setting in the bios of the computer to turn off wol.

it has only just started doing this for some reason.it's not a huge problem but when my 4 year old pick's up the controller and push's the middle button my puter could be on for hours without me knowing .

No - i believe you need to go into the bios to switch wol off...
