View Full Version : Controller works fine but receiver won't connect
I'm trying to set up a new Duet system on my wireless network (WPA2). While the controller connects fine - and works great with an already existing SB3 - the receiver refuses to connect. Its front button goes from flashing red to yellow to, eventually, blue, but never connects successfully - I just get a "problem connecting to the network" message on the controller screen.
I've tried resetting the receiver, and also moving it right next to the router to no avail. Any suggestions on what I might try next?
(I'm running SqueezeCenter Version: 7.2.1.)
I had exactly the same problem - controller connected fine but not the receiver. In my case this was due to a faulty Belkin N1 Vision router. Since that was replaced I've had no further problems.
I guess this is unlikely to be a solution in your case, but I'll pass it on for info.

Thanks anyway. I have a brand new Netgear rangemaxDG834PN which does work intermittently with the Squeezebox and also works perfectly with an EEEpc, Wii, xbox360 and Pure Evoke Flow so I guess I can rule it out as a problem...

Thanks - it turns out that it seems to have been router related in my case too. I finally was able to get the receiver connected, but only after changing some router settings. After trying all the usual troubleshooting items, I finally tried changing my wireless encryption (temporarily hopefully) to WEP from WPA2. This didn't fix the problem (same symptoms) but I noticed for the first time that the receiver was showing up on the network (from the router information screen). I hadn't seen it listed before, even with the receiver and SBC being used within a couple of feet of the router. Since that seemed promising, I decided to make another change, just as an experiment, and switched wireless channels (from 6 to 11). The receiver set-up worked immediately after that (starting with an automatic receiver firmware upgrade) and the Duet system was up and running.
I don't if the problem was resolved just because I made changes (any changes) to some router settings, or if it was because of a specific change. I haven't had time to experiment further, but of course am happy to have gotten to the point where I'm now able to use the Duet.
Sounds like you had a neighbor operating on the same wireless channel as you. That will definitely cause you problems if the signal is strong enough.

Thanks for the replies - I dug further and the only thing I had not tried was a router re-boot. This worked.
I had not thought about this as every other device going through the router was working OK.
Anyway I have a smooth running Duet now, happy!
Thanks
