View Full Version : Firmware update causing problem
My infant nephew managed to find my SB3 remote and do a firmware update to version 113.
Now the SB can find SC (v. 7.21) only for about thirty seconds before resetting itself - the SB screen will go blank and a song playing will typically restart.
I've tried repeating the firmware update and reloading SC but no joy. What can I do to get it working once more?

PS I much prefer my stereo to the child, who is now permanently banished from my house.
Update
I have deduced that this is a reoccurance of a previous problem that 'corrected' itself, for a time at least.
I suspect from a SC installation warning that there may be a conflict on the port I use to serve SC (9000). Can anyone suggest how I can find out what else might be using that port or how to effectively change SC?

Thanks Bonze. There goes that theory then. Set to 9010, confirmed on SB3 screen. No difference. Both Boom and SB3 are giving me about 30 seconds of play and then blankscreening and resetting.
Anyone got any idea what is going on?

Are the Boom and the SB3 synced when they reset, or is this a problem when you try to play them separately?
Also, what are you trying to play - local files or internet radio?
If the problem is connecting to SC (or staying connected), then it may be worth checking any antivirus or firewall program and renabling any exceptions for SC.
Also, maybe check the IP addresses that have been allocated to your Squeezeboxes - could there be an IP conflict? Perhaps try powercycling the router.
Thank you.
Your suggestions prompted me to look at IP conflicts. SC listed Boom as 192.168.2.2:28013, and SB3 192.168.2.2:40162.
I have now assigned a fixed IP to the Boom and (fingers crossed) I think it's sorted.
Thanks again for your suggestions.

The two IP addresses you have listed are definitely in conflict - hence the problems you are seeing. Are you running wireless? If so, your router may well have the capability of assigning static IPs based on MAC address.
If not, try resetting up the second player from scratch (hold down left arrow on remote to get to settings) and rather than let each player get an IP address from DHCP you can set up one manually in the setup outside your DHCP range - 192.168.2.100 or similar.
Edited - sorry I see I was replying to your unedited message via the email - glad you got it sorted.
Yes, all sorted by setting up the Boom from scratch with a static IP.
Thanks for your help Siduhe, it's much appreciated.

Upgraded this week to latest version of 7.2.1 and SBC went through firmware upgrade and had similar issues with constantly reconnecting to SC every 30 seconds or so. Interestingly the players were both OK (2x SB3) After restarting everything a number of times the only thing I had not restarted was the wireless router which had been up 67 days. Switched off for 20 seconds let everything restart and since then all has been OK.
The only other thing I saw in my network settings was QoS priority support for audio and video and switched this off at the same time.
So if anyone looking at this and seeing saimilar issues a simple cold restart of the wireless router may resolve the issues.
It's weird, a couple of my SBs have recently started getting conflicting IPs every so often. Never used to happen, and I can't see how it could be their fault (more likely to be the fault of the router) but it's always the same two (and they do have different MACs). Weird.

...and you blame an innocent child for the problem. Shame on you!! :-).
I've had a similar thing happen to me with my satellite TV settop box. My 2 year old son got a hold of the remote and mashed the buttons. The next day, aspect ratios were all messed up. Arghhh! So, I make the appropriate changes and sternly tell my son that the remote for the TV is OFF LIMITS!! Then we do downstairs and the same this is happening. I look at the software version on the STB and realize we received a software update overnight which caused the problem. Ooops...I then go off and apologize to my son feeling like a heel.

The way it could be their fault is if they don't correctly renew their lease when it expires. What firmware version?
(I run a dhcp server that lets me assign an ip address to a mac address. some routers supports this as well).

Both on 113, an SB2 and an SB3. Both times it's happened it's been after a power failure, everything comes up fine except those 2 players can't see the SC (all the other players, including seemingly identical ones, work fine). Given that they'll both be requesting IPs at about the same time, and neither they nor the router is likely to have any saved state re: leases, it strikes me that it must be the router handing out the same address twice. One of these days I'll get around to putting dhcpd on the server and using that instead of the router!
Luckily the power stays on most of the time :)
