It's not listed in the detailed release notes.. but did bug 7580 fixes make it in?
Is this the Ubuntu/AppArmor issue? Yes, it should be fixed in 7.2.1.
If you find 7.2.1 still does not address this issue, then please reopen bug 7580.

Awesome, 7.2.1 isn't in the debian repo yet, but I tested it with squeezecenter_7.2.1~23629_all.deb and it does the basic apparmor fix correctly. It doesn't fix it for people who upgrade to 8.04 with it already installed, but oh well, that will hopefully be a rare case.
If any slim people are in San Francisco tonight, I'll buy you a beer at Zeitgeist.
Can this simply be installed 'over' the existing 7.2 installation, or should I uninstall (and delete folders) the old 7.2 version? This is on Windows XP.

Very nice! Thanks for all the support you guys provide in keeping the products updated! I love that I can now choose between the SC and the SN on my Booms from my SB controller...
My Boom still shuts itself off when I am in the SC and initially switch to the SN... :( I guess this either did not make it into this release, or is an undocumented bug...
Anyone else have this problem?

The performance will be improved on _any_ system. Most notably on slow
systems (NAS).

The new SqueezeCenter 7.2.1 release is now available at:
http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html
Super! When will we see this in debian stable (http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main)? I still get 7.2...
Thanks!
I'm dead in the water with this release. I upgraded to 7.2.1 and noticed that some of the FLACs I have wouldn't play at all. I tried clearing the library and rescanning to make sure the database was clean, but scanner.exe dies after a few albums on one of my 'whole album' FLAC files. I deinstalled and reinstalled the server but this didn't change anything. I've had to revert back to 7.1 to get a working server :/.
Running Windows Vista Ultimate on a core 2 quad PC.

Please enable debugging for scan.* (Settings/Advanced/Logging), then upload scanner.log and server.log files.
You're not using McAfee by chance?

Same problem here ... I'm told that the installed version (7.2) is the latest.
This using either the Update Manager or "sudo apt-get update/sudo apt-get install squeezecenter"

Upgrading to 7.2.1 made my controller lock up frequently, always when browsing to Music Library->Artists and then trying to select an artist....the controller would lock up and then reset itself.
Going to Settings->Advanced->Software Update gave a message that there was an update for the controller, but gave the version number as '?' and attempting to update either failed or reset the controller.
Reinstalled SC7.2 and all is good again.....

Contents of scanner.log are below. I also looked at the Windows events log and found the details of the crash, which is also below.
Both my anti-virus and Windows Defender were disabled during the scan.

I had this happen when I upgraded to 7.3 nightlies -- it took a forced
reboot of the controller for it to successfully upgrade. I was getting the
version '?' issue as well.

Sorry, but I have so many issues with SC 7.2.1 that it made quite a mess out of my Slim System :(
So I'll downgrade to SC 7.2 in a minute...
I hope the issues will be fixed so that I can have another try later!

HANG IN THERE! How we can we help you solve your issues unless you tell us what they are and what your set up is? That way you're contributing to improvement and learning along the way. I would advise you of opening a new thread, telling us about your system, version information (from the WebUI), and the problems you're having. Many people who know how to help, which pretty much excludes me ;), will get into a dialogue with you and make the system better for EVERYONE (which includes you! :) My guess is that there's something specfic to your set up that is giving you problems.
Good Luck and I'll help too if I can!

Hi there
I have a few issues with v7.2.1 i must admit i had the same errors with v7.2 but hoped they may have been resolved
setup =
SqueezeCenter Version: 7.2.1 - 23630 @ Mon Oct 20 19:54:08 PDT 2008 - Debian - EN - utf8 (ubuntu 8.04)
Perl Version: 5.8.8 i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 5.0.51a-3ubuntu5.1
Platform Architecture: i686-linux
Name: Squeezebox
Model: Squeezebox v3
Firmware: 113
Issue 1.
When accessing music library menus do not allow access to music for example goto music library press right to artist press right artist displayed again press right artist dispayed again, i can never get past the artist menu, these happens for all menus accessed from music library
Issue 2.
From Squeezeenter GUI, player is never found
Issue 3.
Click on music library nothing is ever displayed
So i guess all three issues are related
Any help would be very much appreciated
thanks

Why would Issue 2 be related to browsing problems? How do you play music (or browse the library from the player) if the server doesn't see your player?

Sorry again, but I somehow lost my nerves when I wrote my earlier post.
But after 2 hours of installing, re-installing and configuring my SqueezeCenter / Transporter / Controller system without success it still was not working properly.
I had some minor issues with SC 7.2 which I supposed to be solved in 7.2.1:
1. Controller firmware update SOMETIMES did not work (only when connected to SqueezeNetwork)
2. Controller hangs in some situations
After installing the situation changed:
3. Connection to SqueezeNetwork with Controller NEVER works (register Controller to SqueezeNetwork with PIN is impossible)
4. Controller hangs more often than with SC 7.2
5. Transporter never switches off audio outputs when switched off although it's correctly configured in the settings
6. Transporter hangs when I try to play any music, locally stored MP3s AND internet radio
Just to name a few.
After downgrade to SC 7.2 AND Transporter factory reset plus xilinx reprogramming almost everything is as it was before I tried SC 7.2.1. But issue 3. is still there and additionally Controller firmware update NEVER works.

Can this simply be installed 'over' the existing 7.2 installation, or should I uninstall (and delete folders) the old 7.2 version? This is on Windows XP.
I intstalled it over 7.2 and it worked fine. I had to stop and restart the server after the firmware upgrades, but it preserved all my settings and it didn't even force a library rescan.

I have installed 7.2.1 over the 7.2 (without uninstall) to both ReadyNAS and the computer without problem. After the installation, Squeezecenter started immediately in my computer and run happily there after, but I cannot access the Squeezecenter in my ReadyNAS. I guess it may be due to the low CPU power in the ReadyNAS. After one night, I have no problem accessing the Squeezecenter in ReadyNAS and I feel there is a bit speed improvement when I search/browse through the SB3.
Bryan
Do I need to do anything special to get the 7.2.1 release for Ubuntu/Debian with apt-get ?
I've tried:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
However it doesn't find any new squeezecenter release, it thinks my current 7.2 release is still the latest one.
apt is configured to retreive:
deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main
I have upgraded my SlimNAS to 7.2.1. The Receiver is updated automatic to Ver48 but the controller can't upgrade.
I can't find the new jive file in the folder on my FreeNAS server - where can I download it from ?
Another problem - I can't browse by Artist. I can select the Artist i want to look at and the next screen is "faded" in from the right. But the the screen is half way shown the controller freezes and after a few seconds it is rebooting.
Thought I'd share my experience with upgrading to 7.2.1
All is working fine now, although it was the first time that I encountered significant problems when upgrading. I think it is related to / the same as this bug - http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8272 . I uninstalled 7.2 rather than install over the top (for reasons I will go into shortly) and skipped the SqueezeNetwork registration. MY SB3 then refused to respond to the "Press Brightness to upgrade firmware" prompt.
The reason I uninstalled first is that for *every* SS/SC upgrade bar one (I can't remember which one I'm afraid) the installer has frozen when trying to install over the top of a previous installation. It always freezes at the "Creating Directories" stage - I think it's this bug - http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=9698 . To be honest I've probably not waited as long as 1.5 minutes to see if it continues, maybe I will next time...

I had this happen when I upgraded to 7.3 nightlies -- it took a forced
reboot of the controller for it to successfully upgrade. I was getting the
version '?' issue as well.
Ben
Sorry, forgive my ignorance (I've had a fairly easy run with upgrades until now :)), but when you say a forced reboot, is that something other than just turning the controller off and back on again? After going back to SC7.2 everything went pear shaped, so I've gone back to 7.2.1, but I'm still having the issue with the controller saying there's an upgrade version '?' available.
So far the controller hasn't hung like it did last time, but I haven't had time to use it much, so it may still happen again.....
Cheers!

Has anyone running Ubuntu been able to fetch version 7.2.1 as the stable release?
I keep trying and am always told that 'squeezecenter is already the newest version'.
Who is able to fetch it and who cannot?
Since updating to 7.2.1, the great new My Radio feature in 7.1 has dissapeared! Is this intentional? This was a great feature.
I noticed the following in my server.log:
[08-10-24 16:39:06.6810] Slim::Utils::Strings::loadFile (267) Error: Couldn't open /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/Slim/Plugin/MyRadio/strings.txt - FATAL!

For me, yes, it was simply turning the controller on and off again. It
appears that didn't work for you - sorry! I would definitely recommend
contacting support because something unique is happening and I'm sure they

Here are my problems:
After installing 7.2.1 here are my issues:
1. I cant upgrade my remote to the new version. "Upgrade to version ?"
2. I start the upgrade says: Try again..
- I try again and it reboots only when i press the back button
3. Selection source is now impossible. Connect to computer fails and connect to SN say problem.
Did you have beta testers on this patch?
I mean I have the simplest setup and the installation fails..

Downgrading Controller to an older Firmware is apparently impossible. Is that true? As I don't have an SD card I alternatively tried to connect via SSH to change the Firmware manually. Does not work either.

Any ideas that would help?

Same thing here, that was one of the more important features added recently. I really would like to know why it was removed, beside someone at slim just didn't like it or something. I now need to hunt down the old plugin and hopefully it will work. My GF is going to kill me for the lack of the radio stations. This is a big step in the wrong direction Slim!

I didn't realize there was an update to SC (and the firmwares) until a day ago when switching between SC and SN forced my Boom to flash it firmware. Figured I'd update when I got the chance, but after Rhapsody kept hanging on me and claiming it couldn't authenticate I decided to dive in.
Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit, Quad Core Q9650, 4 Gigs of RAM.
For no particular reason, this is how I update SC every time:
1. Switch all of my players to SN to get them off my local server (I have a Duet, a Boom, and a Classic)
2. Go to my computer, right-click on SC in my task bar and select "Stop SqueezeCenter".
3. Once it stops, I go to add/remove programs and uninstall it, however; I always keep my preferences.
4. Then I install 7.2.1 (or whatever version I am updating to)
5. Once it launches, I allow it time to rescan my library completely.
6. Then I go to each player and switch back to my local server, updating their firmware one by one. I did my Duet first this time, but there is no particular order that I stick to.
Everything works fine - all three players seem to function fine. Oh and, Dear Slim: thanks for fixing the bug I reported over the summer! Wahoo! I can now listen to 48Khz iTunes Plus files and have them transcode correctly!

I miss the My Stations functionality, too.
My ISP has a large list of internet radio stations that don't count toward my download quota. I used to keep this list in my "My Stations" section.
I don't want all of the download-quota-free stations stored in the standard favourites list, as there are just too many, but I do want to be able to browse through such a list to find a station suitable to my mood.
That is, I don't want to have to have a big list of radio stations intermingled with my local music. I want to keep radio with radio, and my music with my music.
My Stations worked perfectly for me, and I don't think it should have been removed until Slim Devices (or Logitech or whoever) came up with an equally functional version.
Just my $0.02
EDIT: I've since created a playlist containing the URLs of all the stations my ISP provides me. It seems to work ok. I'll report back on any frustrations this may cause.

Version 7.2.1~23629 currently in testing had a craptacular effect on my system. SB Classic/Boom Player menus are hosed and the web gui doesn't seem to control much anymore.
I tried synching players, I think things went downhill from there.
Previous 7.2.1 version was much better. I hope you're not going to commit this as a stable. Right now I am seeking shelter in unstable...
I should archive versions I guess.
Mhh. upgrade didn't help and older versions I found in /var/cache/apt neither... In scanner log I found mention of a problem with /var/tmp access rights. Fixed it and it seems to scan again.
Update : 7.2.1~23448 works for me: database, artwork scan, random mixes and probably player synching.

Well, the firmware updated when I loaded 7.2.1 but I didn't check it before reverting back to 7.2. The controller reverted back to the previous version when I downgraded back to 7.2.

That very likely was the player firmware, but not the Controller's
firmware. You can always check it in Settings->Advanced->About
Michael
My problems with the controller rebooting when browsing by artist was solved after I manually upgraded the FW to 3080 using SD card.
7.2.1 is also not yet available in the squeezecenter-stable YUM repository (http://repos.slimdevices.com/yum/squeezecenter/release/) for Fedora/RHEL/CentOS. YUM still says 7.2 is most recent as of Mon Oct 27 12:14:59 UTC 2008

I'm sure the controller firmware update too. I'll try it again tonight and verify the version #. I see that 7.2.1 is in the stable download area, but there is also a nightly building being generated too?? My Squeezecenter 7.2 told me there was a newer version, so I downloaded 7.2.1. Why do nightly builds continue to be generated if 7.2.1 was released in a stable form?
Thanks!

I manually upgraded the FW to 3080 using SD card.
How do you do that??
Copied the file to an SD card and renamed it to jive.bin and inserted it into the controller (remote the battery door and the battery and slide in the SD card) and turn the power on again. In the update menu there is now an option to update from SD card.

No need to rename. And if you don't, you can store multiple versions on the SD card and install any one of them.

I upgraded to 7.2.1 and with it my SB3's firmware today. I got this message from the Office of IT:
Dear Simon,
A device attached to the campus network is responding incorrectly to IP broadcast traffic.
The traffic is from hardware address: 0:4:20:12:48:7d which is registered as the wireless address of the device. [viz., my SB3]
When this device receives an IP broadcast packet from the campus and it decides that it is not interested in the packet (or that something is in
fact wrong with the packet), the device responds by sending an ICMP error message.
This is not correct behavior; no device should ever send an ICMP error message in response to broadcast or multicast traffic. That's because when many devices behave in this erroneous fashion, it creates very large traffic spikes on the network, degrading network service for everyone. On large networks, such as many that compose the campus network, this is a real danger.(In certain situations, such behavior can even result in self-sustaining broadcast storms that keep the network unusable.)
This sort of behavior can be caused by a bug in the device's IP stack, requiring a bug fix from the vendor of the device. (In some unusual situations, it may also be possible for a device to exhibit this behavior as a result of incorrect configuration, but this is uncommon.)
Because this erroneous traffic degrades network service, OIT has blocked it from using the campus wireless service.
If you have any questions, please call the Help Desk or visit the Solutions Center. The Help Desk is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Solutions Center is open to walk-ins from 9am to 3pm, Monday through Friday.

It seems unlikely that these events (the upgrade and subsequent ICMP errors) are unrelated; so: there is likely a bug in the latest firmware.
I thought I should post this here so as someone can investigate it further.

This really irritates me. I finally looked into building an OPML playlist of radio stations last week and was delighted by the ability to set up hierarchies. I spent quite a bit of time setting it all up, but apparently that time was wasted.
Tried this morning to manually import myradio.opml, but it doesn't "stick". Renaming the file to something else and importing it is also not permanent. For that matter, having been in a hurry at the time, I'm not sure that even the impermanent file can be used to actually bring up a station.
This in turn makes me wonder what the point is of the OPML browser.

Installed 7.2.1 on my PC and Duet, and then was sad to see that all my carefully-entered radio stations under Internet Radio had disappeared.
Am I missing something? Is there a new way to store Web Radio stations (e.g., Soma)? All I see now is the "Tune in URL" field in SC, but I don't see how that's gonna work from the remote...
Here's hoping!

and now I have 7.2.1 with MyRadio. Bonus: all my settings were intact, so I didn't have to re-enter the stations.
Yay!
After having upgraded to 7.2.1 and FW63 in my transporter I now have the digital input bug (bug 4834 I think). This was fine in 7.2 with whatever version of TP FW was with it.
I now find I cannot use the RCA digital input - without fiddling switching to other inputs first. Is the pain of going back to 7.2 and previous FW on transporter likely to fix the issue as a temporary fix? Has anyone else seen this?
(Apologies if this post appears elsewhere - I had a computer crash just at the wrong moment and can't see my first attempt at the post - though I had pressed the submit button just as it crashed!)

After updating to 7.2.1 Iīve became a basket case. Just problems after problems, 7.2 worked allright. I only wanted to listen music...
7.2.1 worked allright couple of days, after that the web-interface wouldnīt start at all, an also my SB3 couldnīt connect to server. Only re-installation fixed this. After suffering from that couple of times I decided to update to 7.3 beta, which works better. Only yesterday I had to re-install that too... And simply because I tried to test another skin for the webinterface. After changing that to Default(2), the webinterface didnīt start, and it was impossible to change it back. I even tried to change the interface by editing the configuration-file, but that didnīt help.
I would suggest to test this piece of software a LITTLE more before asking to update for newer version. I know many cases where people have sold their SB after this kind of problems because they just donīt mind fighting.
Thereīs also a one minor bug that annoys me; now playing info on my SB3 gets reset to small VU occasionally. When itīs going to be fixed?
Hi,
All my personlazied webradios channels are gone after upgrading to 7.2.1!
The top level entry under webradio is gone! I just have the Radio IO, Radio Time etc
I'm used the webradio option introduced in 7.2.0!
I use windows XP.
HELP!
The first update i did in a while. Seems to work fine.
I had one problem: I played the first time a 88.2 flac and during playback the Transporter reseted. Hope this is a one time thing.
The new FF is a real BIG improvement. Thanks!
I just installed SC 7.2.1 on Win XP SP2 and everything seemed to go fine, including the automatic firmware update 63 on my Transporter. But now if I select a music track from my Music Library and press "Play" on the Transporter, playback does not start anymore: the display shows "Playing" but the time counter is stopped and no sound comes out. Same thing for all my music files, whether they are FLAC, APE or MP3...
I would like to revert to the previous working version (7.2.0), but I have (carelessly...) erased the .exe file: can I download it anywhere on your site??

I have the same problem as Anadi, but only for some tracks, apparently ALAC files whose tags contain accentuated characters (e.g. Zauberflöte). My SC 7.2.1 runs on Ubuntu 8.10. I submitted question #081110-000694 to e-mail support about my incomplete squeezebox experience. There is progress for me though, since SC 7.2 did not play ALAC at all under Linux. Keep up the work!
I'm also having problems other people have reported on this thread, such as clicking Albums or Artist in the web interface produces nothing after waiting forever.
First let me explain my setup just in case that matters:
QNAP TS-209 Pro
SC 7.2.1
FLAC files only.
Ok, when I browse artists I'm seeing artists with song titles concatenated in them. I have double checked the tags on the FLAC files and they are tagged correctly, which makes sense since I didn't see this on 7.2.
I haven't investigated this fully, but it seems this may be related to multi-artist albums, i.e. the Artist tag differs on the songs with same Album tag.
Something weird is definitely going on. When browsing Artists I also see composers that are not in my tags at all. So something must fetch that off some internet database. I disabled plugins Info Browser and MusicIP and restarted the server and did a full rescan. Still there. It's kind of creepy.

Also I have the same problem, both with SC 7.2.0 with both SC 7.2.1.
Works well only with SC 7.0.1. What can I do? Thank you all for the aid.
oooooooooooo
I have resolved the problem! I have applied this procedure, indicated the guide of instructions of Transporter:
"How do I reset Transporter to factory default settings? Plug the power connector into Transporter while holding down the ADD button on the remote until you see Factory Reset followed by the Welcome To Transporter prompt".
Regards.

Hello,
After reading the responses to SC 7.2.1, I am wondering:
What issues will I have on Fedora 10 Linux (x86_64) and a Squeezebox (classic)?
Please post!

You can find all of the previous versions at http://downloads.slimdevices.com/
I too upgraded to the latest version (7.2.1) and found that although I could define where my music library resided, and even see it in the Squeezecenter Music Folder, the scan didn't point to the same address....it just kept on scanning C:\Users\Public\PublicMusic\SampleMusic. The install process also put in a couple of rogue folders under "Users" with nonsensical "chinese" character descriptions containing subfolders called plugins and playlist if I remember correctly!!!
I've completely removed the old version, purged any remaining folders, cleansed the registry and done a clean install a couple of time but with the same results.
Gone back to v7.0 and all is now well and 40 mins later it's still happily scanning away at all of the data on my remote PC.
(Windows Vista Home Premium + Comodo IS (disabled for install!!)

I'm not a Fedora user, but I wouldn't anticipate any problems at all. 64-bit is a non-issue and Fedora is one of the standard testbeds for the RPM-based installer. You could also wait a few days and install 7.3.

Been awhile since I've been here, but I thought I'd check for software updates since I'll be adding a Duet to my Squeezebox collection today :-)
I have "check for automatic updates" setbut do not get a link in SC. I've unselected automatic checks, applied it, then reselected and applied, rebooted and still nothing. This is on an XP Pro machine running SP3. The link is supposed to show up on the main SC page right?
I thought about downloading manually but thought someone might be interested in having a look at this before I manually update.
Anyone?
Thanks,
Ray
Someone please un-sticky this thread! I'd been waiting for the 7.3 release and completely missed it due to the continued prominence of this thread in the SqueezeCenter forum!
7.3 is out officially, doh~!
Can anyone help to get me a download of an older version? I need 7.2.1.
Since I installed 7.3. my SqueezeBox3 cannot connect to my ReadyNAS NV+ anymore. This is annoying just before Christmas.
Many thanks.
