Hello,
I'm very interested in buying a Squeezebox Duet, but... I can't afford it! I could afford a Receiver and I'm ready to control it from the PC and do without the remote.
However the specs read:
System requirements:
* Squeezbox Controller required for network setup

I've been told that this requirement would disappear with SqueezeCenter 7.3 eg. that I could set up the Receiver without the Controller. But I don't see this info in the roadmap of SqueezeCenter.

Are there any plans to make the Receiver completely independant from the Controller?

Thank you.

You need the wireless music player not the receiver/controller - it is confusing.

Do you mean that the Duet can't be used without a Classic or a Boom?

No, what he means is the Squeezebox Receiver (SBR) can't be used without the Squeezebox Controller (SBC).

I'm not sure where you saw that this requirement is eliminated for 7.3. There is a beta command-line tool that allows you to set up an SBR without an SBC, but it's beta and it's unsupported. Whether this tool will be incorporated into 7.3, I don't know.

Thank you.

It was hinted at in a French forum dedicated to various hardware.
I'll look into the unsupported beta cli tool.

SC7.3: it could make sense, commercially, for Logitech not to push such a tool out of "GeekWorld". As far as I'm concerned, it'll either be $150 in the pocket of Logitech for the Receiver, or €80 in the pocket of One-For-All for an 'alternative'.

I think it's called "NET-UDAP".

You can also look at the Squeezebox Classic. It's more expensive than the SBR but less expensive than the Duet combo (SBR + SBC).

I'd like to, but the receiver itself is already a bit above my budget. I might extend it later when I have more cash available and/or move to a bigger place.

The Squeezebox line seems great (good audio, good networking, good ergonomy, good FLAC support, open source SC with a community, lots of goodies), its only -but big- drawback is that it's not possible to 'bypass' it ie use foobar/mpd/whatever instead. Any software, as good as it is, has limitations. And I'm not a programmer!

Anyway, very tempting!
