View Full Version : screen display when alarm is going off

So far, I've been greatly impressed with almost everything about the boom.
However, I have 1 issue that is driving me nuts. When the alarm goes off, the UI changes the font of the time display to something smaller than the typical "power off" UI.
The boom is just far enough away from my bed to make this very difficult to read when I'm blurry eyed and want to snooze for another 10 minutes before going to work :( The one time I actually care to figure out the time down to the last minute, and I can't read the darn thing.
Is there any way to change this UI such that it will display the large time font that is normally displayed when the unit is off, while the alarm is going off? I couldn't find anything obvious in the player settings.
If not, feature request? This is a huge annoyance.

Not sure I follow. Do you have the date/time displayed when your boom is off? The alarm should't do anything to change the font size during an alarm. All it does is make sure that the date/time screensaver is displayed when an alarm goes off. As far as I know, that should use exactly the same font size as it would when the player is off and the date/time is displayed.

I think the problem is that when the alarm sounds, the player state changes to "on" (Alarm.pm explicitly turns the player on), so the display then uses the When On text size rather than the When Off text size. I just tested this with SoftSqueeze -- had the display at 2-line for on, 1-line/large for off, set an alarm, turned the player off, and when the alarm woke it, I had the 2-line display again. It also changed to the built-in Date and Time screensaver instead of my normal screensaver. All this is what I'd expect from what I've seen in Alarm.pm, but I think the change from 1-line to 2-line is what S-G would like not to happen.

There's a When On and When Off text size?? I never knew that. Makes sense. Note: I've finally found it - it's in the web ui only and uses very different terminology to the player ui.
Not sure the best way to solve this. There's already bug 8359 to use the large font size during an alarm. However, that wouldn't fit my needs as I like seeing the date as well and personally find the large time display ugly.
This is actually bug 8359. I guess we probably need a whole extra preference for the alarm screensaver font.

Yes, I think this is the root of the problem I'm describing.
A screensaver font preference would be perfect!!!
I've been using the sound effects on my boom when I sleep (waves or whatever I happen to feel like) and set the screensaver-while-playing to Date/Time so that it looks like a normal alarm clock. As a side note, that's why I was jumping for joy when they came out with the Boom - didn't want to have to leave an amp and everything else on all night just for an alarm clock.
I, too, have my boom just out of range where the medium sized font (with date above it in the 2-line display) isn't quite readable.
However in "normal" usage...meaning when I'm just scrolling through my tunes looking for something to listen to...the big font is, well, too big, and I'd rather have the 2-line display.
so, yep, a screensaver font preference would save the day!!
