I have read a much earlier post explaining that uniqueness in tagging is
defined by Genre, Artist, Album and Track.
I'm using LAMEB to do the encoding, so it picks up the tags from the file
names (and, so far as I know, can only use the "standard" tags).
Following earlier advice received, I have used the concept of creating an
Album called "singles" for each artist. Singles (usually) have two tracks.
So, by way of example, I have ended up with (following the tag order above):
Pop, Hazel O'Connor, Singles, 01 --> Will You
Pop, Hazel O'Connor, Singles, 02 --> Sons and Lovers
Pop, Hazel O'Connor, Singles, 01 --> D-Days
Pop, Hazel O'Connor, Singles, 02 --> Time is Free
Of course, only the first of each similarly numbered track appears in the
Slimserver lists.
I could invent a separate "Album" for each single.
I could sequentially number (1, 2, 3, 4) across singles.
However, neither of these approaches seems very neat and introduces the need
to be conscious of what has gone before each time I encode a piece of vinyl
(I know I should have kept them all in order!!).
Thoughts on how other people have tackled this would be welcome. Thanks in
advance,
Nick
