View Full Version : Playing Now Info..... Enhancement

Let me preface this by saying I am not using SqueezeCenter, only use SqueezeNetwork.

1. Under Settings>Display>Playing Now Info. I would like the addition of "Time".

Many of the entries in this section seem useless to me as I don't use SC. ie Progress bar doesn't show; remaining time> increments higher not lower; same with elasped time>increments higher but not valuable for internet radio.

So, just give me time, so I can see what the time is and also shows the station name or what is playing.

2. Also in the Screensavers section the RSS feed when in use will display the various newsfeeds and then they stop. I do note the time to the far right on the line with the newsfeed id. But the time will disappear also after awhile, and it is frozen...does not increment? Again, I would like the time to stay.
When do these feed start again? I can get them to go again by turning the volume knob.

I was getting ready to post the same thing. Since I am using the boom as a bedroom clock radio I want the clock up all the time.

Since I would like to buy some booms for the family members and use only SN. Is there any possible chance of community contributed custom plugins for SN?

You should probably add your two penny worth to this bug.
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8555

I raised the issue of no time displayed on an alarm clock quite late in the beta program and there was not enough time to get it in for the release.

However it looks like it might be in for 7.2.1.. (the issue seems to come up quite frequently here now).

But I do not use SqueezeNetwork so have no idea if the time update will work with that too... so once you've read what others have written into bug add any non-addressed concerns you have.

MC,

Thanks for the headsup!

I see that it is being addressed in 7.2.1:

------- Comment #17 From Simon Turner 2008-08-05 14:57:16 -------
At the risk of adding bug spam... if one of the intended uses of the Boom is as
an alarm clock/radio/bedside hifi it must be important that it displays the
time after the alarm has gone off and the (most commonly used) Now Playing
screen saver has kicked in. If 7.2 is the Boom release version then it'd seem
strange that this clock feature wasn't included.
------- Comment #18 From Dean Blackketter 2008-08-06 13:18:47 -------
yes, we need another pass at the translations. Michael: We'll be able to do
this for 7.2.1?
------- Comment #19 From Michael Herger 2008-08-06 14:10:09 -------
7.2.1 should be fine
------- Comment #20 From triode1@btinternet.com 2008-08-30 12:37:35 -------
Do we want to include the patch as attached here for 7.2.1? If so do we want
it to be hidden initially (like the buffer fullness option)?

It's an interesting bug.
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8555

There is just so much real estate on the screen.

Some people reckon the "Now Playing" text is superfluous and should not be included on the screen... which would free up space for other text... like a bigger, more decent time/date display.

This would suit me just fine.

Hopefully others will mention this on the same bug (vote for it or add a comment).

It's interesting to see that Boom might be attracting users who only want to connect to SqueezeNetwork (as opposed to SlimCenter). It validates Logitechs Slim development plan (I for one never saw the attraction of SqueezeNetwork).

I left a comment at the bug site; voted for it; what else is needed..................... this is a no-brainer addition.

bwc: this is a server side enchancement, it would be fixed in SqueezeCenter and SqueezeNetwork. No firmware changes necessary.

Maybe a light at the end of the tunnel.

I agree - I think I'm just a geek, but even if I had bought it for SqueezeNetwork only, I would have realized the convenience of digitizing my entire music collection (and never handling a CD again, except to rip it). That would have been the end of my SqueezeNetwork days. Indeed - I've used SN exactly once...

I have a digitized music collection that resides on my PC and is played thru my Denon AVR to my Home Theater setup. However, my Squeezebox Boom is not utilizing this music collection (not using Squeezecenter) as the PC is off at the hours the Boom is used. So, the Squeezenetwork is what I utilize and appreciate that the "boys" will shortly enable the "time" to show on the display properly.

I have looked at mp3tunes.com as an "always on" solution or a Ready NAS, but for what I am using the Boom, the SNet is fine. Just give me my time please. :)

I am not sure just when this takes affect? My Boom in Settings>Display>Playing Now> has no "time" selection yet. SqueezeNetwork only. Perhaps the code has been added to 7.2.1 but not yet released?

SqueezeNetwork (sv) r4575/r23219 currently.

It looks like 7.2.1 might be released quite soon (judging by bug activity).

However, I can't seem to find the current 7.2.1 nightly here:
http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads

And the web site download page for SqueezeCenter is just plain confusing, e.g:

http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html states this:
Beta and pre-release versions of SqueezeCenter, are also available.
Which links to this:
http://www.slimdevices.com/dev_nightly.html
Which says this:
Every night a new pre-release version of SqueezeCenter is built from the very latest software that's been updated by the development team........
Please download the official 7.2 release. Read the change log here.
7.3 - This is the latest version of the next major update to SqueezeCenter.
Blah, blah etc.

No mention of 7.2.1 anywhere.
Anyone any idea where i can get it?

FYI, 7.2.1 is also in the Debian and yum testing repos.

Sorry, that page hasn't been updated yet.

We'll be moving the nightly page to the wiki here:

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Nightly_Builds

which points to:

http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/latest/7.2/

Turned on my Boom last night and checked for the added provision in Now Playing Info, and to my delight found "Clock"! :)

Works perfectly. Thanks to all involved for making this improvement.

Are you sure it works perfectly?

The behaviour of my NowPlaying screensaver seems to have changed a fair bit and is now not even consistent between something like Last.fm and my Music Library. I don't know if this is due to clock addition, some other addition.... and I'm not even dead sure I'm not imagining it has changed (I might be going mad!).

Thee back arrow seems to take me two menus steps back now and then does not "remember" the steps back (via right arrow). The up/down arrows don't work and the right arrow does the right thing in Last.fm but not in my Music Library.

I'm sure it doesn't make any difference but I am using rhe conventional remote, not the Boom remote.
