View Full Version : Boom alarm when network is down
Hi, I am curious of what happens to the alarms if the network is down or just the slimserver. Is there a backup "beep" to wake you up ?

Yes and Yes. You must have power, but no network is necessary for alarm to
ring.

Is there any sort of short term power backup for the real time clock should the power go off.
A slot for a rechargable AA to keep the RTC and alarms in the event of a power glitch would be real nice.
I hate having to reset my alarm clock just because I've pulled the plug accidentally.
Or does all this stuff get pulled from the Network at startup?

There's a supercap that keeps the RTC up for about 24 hours should the power be interrupted.
The alarm won't sound and the display will be dark, but the time will be retained and when power is restored it'll come back up even if the server doesn't. The alarm will still sound even if the server is offline (firmware-generated tones) as long as it has power.
Absolutely. There is a supercap that will hold time and alarm time
during power outages.

Excellent. I was already sold on this, but it seems like the shortfalls in every other product I've had are finally fixed.
1 last thing (I swear).
My current alarm clock supports 2 alarm times per day.
And those alarms can be configured to go off as follows.
1) Mon-Fri
2) Sat-Sun
3) Every day
Does Boom support this type of alarm flexibility.
AFAIK you can have as many alarms as you like on whichever days you like. But that's done through SC, so it's not specific to Boom (look under Settings/Player/Alarm Clock in SC7.2).

There's very detailed discussion on the new alarm's functionality in this very forum. Please have a read.
