On the topic of DACs that work. I just installed a used Perpetual
Technologies combination of the P-1A and P-3A (with the P-3A having the
modwright signature Level I upgrade). Yes, call me crazy, but I got this
$2300 worth of DAC equipment for about a quarter the price used, so had to
jump on it. Anyway, the P-1A is having no problems locking onto the signal
(using coax). In fact, it seems to somehow stay locked (at least the lock
light doesn't go red) even when I turn my SB off. I'd love to say that it
sounds great, but I need some real listening time this weekend to pass
judgment. In the little bit that I've listened to it already, it is
(obviously) better sounding than the analog outs (it better be!).
