Hello,

As these two plugins are beta and so is the version of SC I'm using I don't know if I should bother posting this, and if I should, where.

I'm using 7.0.01 with some plugins already installed which all work fine.

I've just installed Biography and Album Review plugins onto the lastest 7.0.1 nightly and when I go to SC Settings/Plugins and click the Settings link for each plugin I am returned with:
404 Not Found: settings/plugins/AlbumReview/settings.html
and
404 Not Found: settings/plugins/Biography/settings.html.

I can see that the associated pages are in the correct places (comparing them to the same pages for other plugins), i.e:

C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\server\Plugins\AlbumReview\HTM L\EN\plugins\AlbumReview\settings.html
and
C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\server\Plugins\Biography\HTML\ EN\plugins\Biography\settings.html

In case it matters I downloaded one of the plugins from Michael's web site ansd gthe other from a thread about iPeng/Jive etc as it included the Jive folder I wanted (whereas the version on the web site didn't).

I've rebooted and restarted SC a number of times.

Any help appreciated.

Are you sure you're on 7.0.1 and not 7.1? Please check server.log for
information about plugin loading. There should be an error code if a
plugin fails to load, indicating the reason for failure.

I'm definitely on 7.0.1. At the time of posting I'd not touched 7.1.

Since then I have though. The result being that the Transporter updated to firmware 40 (which I'm not going to contemplate as I run my Transporter directly into a 300w amp) and the left hand pane of the web gui failed to load. I uninstalled 7.1, keeping my plugins and prefs and resinalled the current 7.0.1 nighly. I still experienced error with your two plugins (although all others are plugins work fine) so I took them out, downloaded them again and reinstalled them. Same result, the individual plugin settings pages cannot be loaded by the SlimCenter settings page.

Another oddity I noticed was that when I turned on the plugins (clicked the checkbox) in the SlimCenter/Plugins page and hit "Apply", SlimCente reported that the "changes to AlbumReview and Command Line Interface (CLI) would be made at the next restart". I hadn't changed anything to do with the Command Line Interface (CLI) plugin. The one I had changed (which didn't get mentioned), was your Biography plugin which is listed directly above in the plugin page.

I got that one on several occasions as well (not AlbumReview or Biography related)

And still no log snippet for me? Please? :-)

That sounds ugly. Will have to check. I know we do have an issue with plugins failing the version check but still showing up in the plugins section. But handling the wrong settings sounds evil.

No as evil as it sounds...
The settings actually aren't changed as far as I can see, it's just being reported when you click the submit button.
Also: It's only CLI, at least for me

In fact it wasn't only CLI, but any plugin which actually can't be disabled (CLI, Favorites, Scanner in 7.1). Thanks for reporting. Should be fixed in rev. 19016

Another thing.... when I deleted the plugin folders and rebooted some time ago I noticed that there was still a mention of both plugins in SimCenter/Settings/Plugins but they they were now referred to as PLUGIN_ALBUMREVIEW and PLUGIN_BIOGRAPHY and did not include the Settings link.

Well, if you at last gave me the server.log file, than I might say more about it. But you've been refusing to do so though I've asked 2-3x ;-).

I think I actually received:

"changes to AlbumReview and Command Line Interface (CLI) Favorites"

But I'd hit OK before I could check that it really was the word Favorites on the end (i.e. do a double-take), so didn't report it.

Sorry, sorry, sorry. I'm always in far too much of a hurry. I need to relax more. :-(
Not a refusal though, just a case of reading posts too quickly.

That's not enough. Please delete plugin-data.yaml from your SC's cache folder and try again. And please set logging for server.plugins to debug, and make it sticky before restarting SC.

I really don't understand what's going on. There can't be that little information. Could you please run "dir /s AlbumReview" to get the full list of installed files? And did you wipe the plugins-data.yaml file?

I did delete the yaml file and also set the plugin logging correctly..
This is what dos reports:

The results for the Biography plugin are the same. I'm perplexed. If I navigate to the plugin folders via Windows Explorer all the files have sensible file sizes listed and if I double click on a txt or html file it opens correctly.
I have now downloaded the zip files from your site and your forum post twice and installed them with same results.

Michael

Five minutes before you wrote this I deleted the plugin folders to to try a test using AstroInfo plugin as a control. I uninstalled all three plugins, restarted SC, deleted the three plugin folders, restarted SC. AstroInfo was removed correctly and not listed in Plugins/Settings but both Biography and ArtistInfo then became listed as:

PLUGIN_ALBUMREVIEW and PLUGIN_BIOGRAPHY

I downloaded all three plugins afresh and placed the folders in the Plugins directory (Biography-2.4.99.zip Beta from your web site and AlbumReview from this post: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=275030&postcount=31).
Then restarted SlimCenter 7.0.1, enabled them in Plugins/Settings (noting that your plugins were now listed correctly) and restarted SC again.

AstroInfo plugin worked fine. Still both your plugins did not work and clicking on the individual plugins Settings link gave me a 404 error.

The permissionon all three plugin folders appeared to be the same.

As I have already re-installed SC 7.0.1 but this problem persists so is it possible there is something in my preferences files causing this?

I removed the preferences file for both of your plugins from Windows XPs "Documents & Settings", expecting them to be regenerated when I restarted SlimCenter, but they weren't so I put them back.

Is there something in my main prefernces files I might edit/look at? I don't really want to do a totally fresh install of SC7.0.1 (inc. preferences) and loose all my settings (or wait 2.5 hours for my cache to regenerate, but maybe deleting this would be unneccesary).

I'm quite stumped.

BTW. I ran the dos "dir /s" command on all three plugin folders and the results were consistent across all three (i.e. as above). It seems that there is nothing out of the ordinary wih the output above and that that is just how the command output is supposed to look.

Did you ever delete plugin-data.yaml?

Did you ever delete plugin-data.yaml?

I did, see previous but one post... :-)

However, I've stopped SC and deleted plugin-data.yaml again. It was recreated when I restarted SC but still the plugin problem persists. I've attached the recreated file (zipped) in case it is of any help.

Isn't this the maxVersion problem in install.xml ?
Does maxVersion = 7.0+ really work with 7.0.1 ?

try to delete it first and then stop the service.

I'm also having problems getting these plugins to work. I'm on SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 17793 via Windows Vista.
I first installed the CPAN modules - nothing appeared in the SqueezeCenter display on the PC (though the plugins do show up as installed in Settings/Plugins). I then installed Perl Version: 5.8.8 - but still nothing happening.
The plugins were unzipped to the SqueezeCenter/server/plugins folder, as advised.
I don't know if it's significant but the strings.txt files for each plugin seem to indicate that the server cannot connect with the information source. Can the developer or anyone else assist? Many thanks.

Do they show up under "plugins" on the settings pages?
Please try to delete the plugin-data.yaml (see http://penguinlovesmusic.de/?page_id=12#path on where you can find it) - only that one file - and restart the server

Thanks for the swift response! Yes - all three plugins show up in Squeezecenter settings/plugins.

I can't find this yaml file. In Vista there isn't such a path as Documents & Sttings (it's Users/AppData/). But even searching the C drive using Vista's efficient search facility didn't find it.

Gerry Cordon
2008-04-28, 08:01
I've found it - you have to set the Vista search to include hidden folders & Files. The path is: C:/Program Data/SqueezeCenter/Cache

I'm going to re-boot now.

Hm, this sounds different than the other plugin issues.
So what exactly does work and what does not? The plugins are on the settings page and enabled? . Do you get a 404 error when you try to access the plugin settings (settings->plugins->AlbumReview)?

Gerry Cordon
2008-04-28, 15:12
The plugins are all enabled (ticked) in Settings/Plugins. When I select, for example, Album Review and click settings I see a page to adjust settings such as Refresh Interval, etc. But when I select an album or artist and play a track there is no album review or artist biography displayed.

This is strange: I can now get album review, biography and lyrics via Extras on SqueezecCenter on the PC, the Softsqueeze Emulator and on my Squeezebox 3 - but not on my Duet Controller. Why should that be?
