If you can 'weald a soldering iron', go for one of Andy Weekes' designs: http://www.at-view.co.uk/alwsr.htm Go for the option where they attach the surface mount device though.

I prefere variable psu's as you can tweak them rather more ie if you add components to smooth the final dc or quieten down the rectifiers this will often reduce the available current and hence the final voltage so with a variable out put you can increase the output to compensate ...rs do a 2a module that I've had very good results from thats cheaper than this one

The PS needs to supply about 1.5A @ 5VDC. I think a ALWSR reg will have trouble supplying this much current.
