View Full Version : Can I make my own IR emitter?
Hi,
I know the IR emitter is not expensive, but it seems that it is not available in Denmark.
So what is it actually? A IR diode or something?
My point is, would it be simple to make one myself using parts from my local electronics store?
(I am used to tinker with electronics)

Why, they're cheap to buy.
It is quite easy to make on on your own. Just get a IR Diode out of an old remote control or buy on at an electronix store for a view pennies. Cut the cable of an old wakman earpiece and solder the ir diode to the cable. More infos and the irblaster page.

Anyone have suggestions about what places to look for them in the eastern US (Wash DC area)? Of course, there's the SD web site, but I'd rather avoid the $11 shipping charge for a $8 item. Thanks.

Xantech make pretty reasonably priced flexible components for this sort of thing, I've never had issues with their stuff.
