View Full Version : Have recent updates changed the way JHB turns "off"?
To save battery power, I always turn the JHB off by pressing and holding the home button.
This allowed the battery to last several days.
But lately when I turn the JHB off I only get 24 hours or so before the battery goes completely dead. It's like the JHB is no longer truly "off" and there's some load that drains the battery even when it's supposed to be "off".
I notice this started about when that (otherwise nice) "Goodbye" power off icon started appearing.
Anyone else notice this?
Off should be (fully) off, so if the battery is getting drained when the remote is powered down, that's a bug.
Should I file it as a bug?
I'll be out of town for a few days, but when I get back I will accurately time how long it takes for the battery to run down from a full charge when I turn it "off".
Yes, please. I'm not going to have an opportunity to look at this today and will be traveling the remainder of the week. Opening a bug ensures that it will not be forgotten.
I filed it under Jive software - Settings. I thought maybe hardware but it seems to be a software configuration that changed.
I've been wrong about this in the past, so if I filed it wrong, 1000 lashes...
I have not been able to reproduce the problem on the latest hardware with the latest software. We do use a little power in 'off' mode, so even a partially charged battery should last for quite a while. This should be no different from previous software versions. Off is really just *mostly* off -- we still keep the RTC going for example.
I just turned off my (older) jive with the nice 'Goodbye', and it appears to go off. The Screen is off, however by moving the wheel, I can still hear it scroll through menu items.
I don't have the tools to check what's going on at home, but will check it tomorrow.
This happened after a firmware upgrade failed (stuck on Virifying Image), don't know if its related or not.
Clearly, the device is still fully turned on, and is draining power.

FWIW, I goodbye'd down my fully charged remote on sarturday morning,
and it was totally flat when I returned on sunday.. This would have been
friday's firmware on a pretty recent nightly with no failed upgrades.. I'll
investigate further this evening..
