Transporter RackMount Questions - Handles and Ears

I'm getting to install my audio rack and have two questions related to my transporter:

(1) Has anyone removed their handles? I have not opened the case, but assume there are nuts on the inside holding them on? How about covering the holes left by the handles?

(2) I ordered the middle atlantic custom rack shelf for the transporter. Anyone have one and care to comment on quality, etc?

I think the rack handles on the TP are simply for look, no functionality. I suppose someone could machine a real rack faceplate for the thing.

I have several components in custom Atlantic rack mounts. They all have a very precise fit.
