View Full Version : SC7: any reason to prefer dailies over SVN?
For the purpose of testing, I suspect it would be more efficient for me to run a Subversion checkout of the trunk than to keep downloading nightly builds. Is there any compelling reason I should run nightly builds instead of SVN checkouts?
Not that i know of.
I tried to run an SVN version on XP but it kept complaining aboutperl modules os gave up and use the daily builds instead. Althoug I have to admit that i don't update every night :)
svn is preferred over nightlies, if for no other reason than you can test fixes immediately instead of having to wait until the next day.
The downside of using the SVN checkouts is that you don't have the
advantage of the installer and platform specific runtime tools (mac
preference pane, windows tools, etc...)
If you are comfortable with a command line interface, though, it is
as up to date as possible.
Thanks. Main downside I've hit so far trying to stop the "official" SS 6.5 and run SC7 from SVN checkout is that Slim/Music/Import.pm looks for & uses the SS 6.5 scanner in /usr/sbin. Nothing a couple # chars couldn't fix quickly.
