View Full Version : How do I force a Jive firmware update?
My Jive handset is currently running r675. Up til now, whenever SlimServer has downloaded a new Jive f/w, next time the handset was booted it noticed, and could be updated.
Today I downloaded and installed the 10/10 nightly of SC 7.0 (Windows version). Previously I had been running the 9/29 nightly.
I can see that the Cache folder has "jive_1_r682.bin", but can't get the handset to notice. It doesn't say anything at boot-up, and the Controller Settings -> Advanced -> Software Update screen is blank. I've tried booting into the previous version (r643) and then rebooted, but no luck - it just goes back to r675. I've pulled the battery to see if that made any difference, but it didn't. Could this be anything to do with the new build of SC 7.0?
I don't have a micro SD card. So what are my options?
The firmware update check is done when you select a player on Jive.

This isn't new, see this thread:

Wouldn't surprise me that if you wait for the next firmware download, it installs properly.
There's probably a way to debug this behaviour, unfortunately I haven't had time to try.....

I don't have a "Select Player" option anywhere. I think I can recall seeing it in the past, but have not done so for a while. When the Jive boots up, it just connects to the only player that is connected to SS 7.0.
The only way I was able to get a "Choose Player" option was by doing a factory reset. After that, I selected the player, and it just connected - no firmware update.
Just to confirm the current state:
Jive handset firmware:
r675 sdi@padbuild #55 Sat Oct 6 04:23:34 PDT 2007
Slim Center version:
7.0 - 13701 - Windows 2000 - EN - cp1252
In the Cache folder, jive.version shows:
1 r682 sdi@padbuild #59 Wed Oct 10 07:06:26 PDT 2007
and there is a file called jive_1_r682.bin (size is 11,932,536 bytes).
Any ideas?

Hmm, I'm not entirely sure but I think it should still check for an
update in this case. Try connecting a Softsqueeze just to see if it
works when you use Choose Player.

Thanks for the tip - that worked.

I'm still having trouble grabbing the latest firmware. I've tried restarting SqueezeCenter, pulling the battery on the remote, factory reseting the remote, starting up an instance of SoftSqeeze so I could get a "Choose Player" option, and none of these tricks want to grab anything beyond r696.
I try going to "Software Update" on the remote, but there is nothing there to "Continue" with and pressing the center button just bumps. I used to use a SD card to update, but I dropped the card in my coffee and haven't picked up a new one. :)
Ideally, in addition to finding a temporary work around, I'm hoping someone has some tips on how to debug this. Does anyone know which logging option I should turn on? Perhaps "Slimserver Cache?"
Thanks,
