View Full Version : Curious where the word "Jive" came from?

OK, for my Friday musing, I am curious where this term came from.

Was it focus-grouped? Did it come from that 'evil' JimC? (No Jim, I don't think you're evil at all, but you have fairly gleefully taken the blame yourself for some naming decisions recently, which I think is rather cool actually! It nicely extinguishes the flames before they start.)

This question probably won't/can't be answered, but is "Jive" just a development phrase, are there any thoughts of using it with a commercial product? The Jive remote...SqueezeCenter Jive.

I have no answer, but...

the charger has a nickname too. "Shuck".

Put them together and you have "Shuckin' the Jive".

...which happens to be a chapter from the Holy Text known as Cruel Shoes by Steve Martin.

After reading the chapter "Shuckin' the Jive", I think all of your questions will be answered.

LOL! Now that's a term that will stick in my mind long after a commercial product is released...

It raises wayyyyy more questions than it answers (quite the odd story) but I would be honoured to play the role of the eastward wandering Canadian guru! ;-)

Jive was suggested by an old friend of mine and it stuck for now.

Just a note: the word "jive" is a temporary code name and will be
going away.

Shame, I like 'Jive.' Much better than some secret projects I've worked on. Projects 'Marrow' and 'Radish' were certainly ones to forget ;-)

Me too.

But the good news is that we're going to be using Squeezebox and the
Squeeze prefix more and more consistently. SqueezeNetwork,
SqueezeCenter, etc...

Jive is a nifty name, but someone got there first for software (use
google if you care)
