What buttons do you think would be a useful addition to the Jive remote?

1. Repeat
2. Shuffle
3. Sound Mute
4. Other?

For a sb dedicated remote...none...less is more.

If any additional buttons where added then I would vote for making them generic like on a gamepad...so that the user can assign whatever he wants to them without getting confused by a dedicated icon symbol on it.

None of those mentioned do it for me - I never use repeat or shuffle, and why mute when you can pause? (It would be easy to make pause equivalent to mute when listening to the radio)

So I agree, the fewer the better. Maybe soft buttons, driven by a choice on the screen.

Yes, after it was pointed out to be me, I suppose Mute is irrelevant. Shuffle is probably catered for well enough by Random mixes, so I get repeat is the only thing that I'd like for playing single Albums or playlists.

Again, none of the above :)

The 2 buttons I use the most on the old remote are "Brightness" & "sleep", particularly for the player in bedroom, for the obvious reasons. So if I could have those 2 functions either in the top-level menu, or dedicated/assigned buttons, I would be happier.

I would also say none of the above.

The simpler, the better.

That's quite interesting. The common SOP is to add and add until the product has so many features it becomes unusable except to a core group of users.

It's very refreshing that everyone here understands that simple is the elegant and easiest user interface of all.

None of the mentioned, but I would really like three other buttons:
- A page down button
- A page up button
- A access button

The page up/down buttons would be used to make it easier to scroll through long lists by making it possible to jump larger steps in the list, but besides this they would also be useful if you like to use the remote for controlling other devices than the SqueezeBox. For example for changing channel on a TV.

The access button would be like the Windows key on a keyboard, you would be able to click it on any item while browsing your library and it would show the functions available for that particular item. The middle button available today might be possible to use for this also, a single click could work as it does today and a hold for 1-2 seconds could launch the access menu.

The current scroll wheel has no haptic feedback and it is difficult to scroll a defined number of steps up/down without gazing the display.
It would be nice if the scroll wheel is pressable up/down and left/right just like the ipod scroll wheel for easier menu operation. If it is not protected by letters patent.

A power/reset button, for the win!

Yeah. A small recessed "hard reset" button somewhere thet can be pressed with a ball point pen or something would be good.

I really miss the "now playing" button. Having to go through the menus to go back to it is really irritating.

Plus, I'd really like the buttons re-arranged so the play and back keys are on the same level, not opposite corners.

In fact, now that I think about it, my vote would go for "soft" keys just under the screen that are context sensitive to the screen content, like on a cell phone. That way you can minimise buttons but retain functionality and relevance.

To do a factory reset, you take the battery out and put it back in holding the + button down till the screen flashes twice. To be safe you can hold it down till the splash screen shows.

The feature was there, but is now broken, but will be back soon,
where pressing the Home button a second time will take you to Now
Playing.

An extra user configurable button like the iriver Clix has. This would be configured to make the player power down, show now playing, or any of the other menu item actions
