I've been using the SB hooked up to some powered PC speakers stuck in a Sierra Nevada beer case (it's important that you know it's a good beer). It goes everywhere and works great. Now I'm ready to turn it into a more proper box. I have my chopped up wooden wine case (Casillero del Diablo. That's important too) and my T-amp. I'm thinking about Fostex full range speakers but I wonder about the best size.

The box face is about 7x20. Do I get 3" speakers and leave room for a bass port below them or fill up as much of the available area with speaker cone as possible, 4.5" in this case? I know diddly about cabinet design. One issue with the smaller speakers is efficiency. I see in the forums that 90+ db is preferred for this amp.

Fostex Size Watts dB
FE83E 3" 10 88
FE103E 4" 15 89
FE126E 4.5" 45 93

Thanks for your thoughts.

the speakers your looking at are normally built into horns ...these need a long tube 8-10' to be able to generate the low notes.

As you say your very limited to the power output of the T-amp [single ?] you only have about 3 watts before it clips....

I can't think of a design thats going to help you ...but you may find the information here useful

this is the archive section you can download all the kit designs from here ...there must be something that will help you !

Have you looked at www.diyaudio.com?

Lots of stuff there on diy boomboxes.

The Fostex 126 has nice efficiency and can get down to 60 Hz in a small box. I drove speakers of slightly lower efficiency with the T amp to quite respectable sound levels.

Fostex has a design guide at http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/speaker_comp/pdf/recom_enclose/fe126e_encl.pdf
