View Full Version : MP3 bug/"scratc" finder tool, where to find?
I have a collection of MP3 files where many are converted from library CDs using my previous computer using the tool cdex. For some reasone alot of my files have some "scratches"....
what Im looking for is a tool that can run trough my 6000 files and check it for "scraches"...
Is there any out there?
Here's a thread where several applications are mentioned:

I haven't used any of these, but in case no one else has a suggestion, it is at least a place to start.

Thanks for the quick reply :D
Maybe "scratches" is the wrong word, because the good old LP scracthes is charming but those on my mp3 files are annoying because they have a "hard sound" and not the "smooth" sound like on the LPs...
And I dont need to fix the scratches (I dont think you can - you need to reconvert the songs, I guess) - first I need to have a list of which files and how many it is - its for that I need a "search my mp3 files for soundbugs"-tool
Hope for help

Download the music from another source, it's probably faster than going trough hell and highwater to restore them.
Library CD's my a** i tried 10 yers ago, they are usually so scratched that they are barely regognizeable as CD's, you are lucky if they are still round and not cracked.
This is clear evidence that after 20 years 99,99% of humanity still don't know how to handle a disc.
It's like rental dvd's they keep them i box full of gravel and pizza grease.
I'm a disc stalinist i crack my whip if somebody even tries to touch the surface on my cd's ;-)
Hmm then its just where I have to get my music....
Funny there aint any tool that can analyze mp3 files...

Well this is why we shouldn't use lossy compression...
First you need to convert them to WAV files and then athere are loads of audio restoration tools...
BUT - if these are tracking errors from the original rip, you will die before you clean all of the scratches away!
(or alternately, you can try the auto-repair mode...which will trash what's left of the music!
Don't rely on MP3 as an archival format.
