Hi all
Iīm pretty new to this unix/linux or whatever it is. And Iīm trying to install AlienBBC on a DS107+
And I donīt know how I shall acces volume1/public....
Can someone make a nice and good description on how to install this. Maybe with pics, if itīs not to difficult.
(I have read the README file several times. But I just canīt figure it out from that alone)
Do I have to get the linux version of AlienBBC ? Or can I just get the normal version, and then install into these 2 folders \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\slimserver\plugins (btw is this a folder I have to make myself ?)
and the volume1/slimserver/plugins (which I donīt know how to acces and install into :-( )
When I go into the folder \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\public all I got is my music folder.
Am I all lost here or am I close to the goal ? The program is SS/SSODS is running fine. No probs at all. Only this AlienBBC stuff.
FG

Hello
You need the Linux version of AlienBBC.
The README assumes some basic windows networking knowledge. An alternative to that procedure would be FTP (not sure if that is in the README, I should probably add it).
Get an FTP client (e.g. Filezilla) and connect to the DS with username admin and its password. You should then see the SlimServer (captial S!) folder where you have to install the Alien files. FTP needs to be enabled on the DS.
If I remember correctly, you need only the stuff in the Plugins folder from AlienBBC. You'll have to create a file custom-convert.conf as described in the README.ssods (copy & paste, remove the line breaks). This file goes into the SlimServer folder, the alien files go into SlimServer/Plugins/AlienBBC/.
Let me know how this works.

P.S. A HOWTO with screenshots (press [Alt]+[Print Scrn] and paste into Word or so) would be very nice. :)

Hi FlipFlip
Thanks for your reply. I have found out how to find the "root" of the DS. In there I have a folder named public, and one called slimserver (with small letters), and a folder called SSODS. I asume that that is correct ?
I have then extracted the Linux AlienBBC with Winrar until Iīm at the Alien folder.
I would then copy it into the slimserver/plugins on the DS. I have allowed all traffic (RW) to the DS (user, admin, guests, and FTP) in the privilige menu, and to all 3 folders.
And I have removed the "dot" in the writeprotection of the plugin folder. But Iīm still not allowed to copy into this folder. Other folder I can copy into.
Am I still doing this wrong ?
I believe that itīs just a small thing who will do the trick :-)
Would you lilke me to take some screenshots of my settings ?
EDIT : I havenīt set a password on the DS.
Regards
Lars

You have to connect as user admin, independent from what is set in the access settings ... or...

..did it work now?
Anyway, access via FTP is probalby easier..

P.S. "slimserver" and "plugins".. strange. Should (and is on my DS) be "SlimServer" and "Plugins". Anyway, if it works.. :-)

No it doesnīt work yet. I will try to setup a password for the admin. Or is there a standard password for the admin. Because it asks for a password. But I havenīt set one. So I have logged in as Anonymos so far. And I can change files etc in some folders. But the plugin folder wonīt allow me
EDIT : You are the MAN FlipFlip. I have solved my problem. I guess it was my own fault, as I couldnīt connect as admin before I set a password.(guess that you have to change it, or else you donīt know the pass :-)) So now I have copied the files and it seems to work.
Thanks a lot for your help, and for the serverprogram.
So now I will listen to some music :-)
Keep up the good work
Regards
Lars
