View Full Version : Disabling SB3 internal power regulation
I've just added an external regulated, linear power supply which has brought a small improvement to the sound. From what I read on the forum the SB3 still has its own internal regulation though - what do people do about bypassing this ?
Is it easy, and is there anyone out there doing the mod ?
Is it worthwhile ?
Thanks

Red Wine Audio used a battery in place of the 12/14V rail, but dropped the Sb mod. IIRC the Patrick Dixon's SB+ uses a super regulator or two for the analog section, as does the Transporter (again, IIRC).

Well it should be considerably easier than designing a product from scratch, whatever that means. There are no online instructions with pictures unfortunately. There are people doing it for money, but I'd buy a transporter, personally.
If you can do it yourself it makes more sense than designing/buying an expensive power supply to feed the 5V external input. According to sean adams the super reg powering the DAC makes a definite improvement in the analog outs of the sb2: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=15201&highlight=super+regulator
Happy Trails.
