View Full Version : Creating CD's from FLAC files
My old car CD player doesn't play FLAC or MP3's. What are the options in translating FLAC files into something that can be played?
Find a CD burning program that can convert flac to wav and burn it onto a cd. I use Roxio, but there are free programs that can do it, too.
Nero can do it with appropriate plugin from the Nero website.
burrrn is simple, effective and free.

And if you use EAC in Windows for ripping: Create and keep EAC non-compliant CUE sheets for every album that you rip. After you finish ripping a CD, do a quick edit in the CUE sheet file, changing .wav to .flac. In Windows associate the .cue file extension with Burrrn and then you can burn a quick, nearly identical copy of an album just by double-clicking the .cue sheet file.
Another vote for Burrrn! Simple, free and it does the job.
Thanks for the input. I will try Burrrn.. but I did not make cue sheets when I ripped my CD's to FLAC.

They're not necessary, just handy for copying CDs. You can easily drag and drop flacs right into Burrrn. You would need to do this anyway if you want to make a compilation or other mixed CD.

I almost asked earlier if the cue sheet was needed for exact copies. Nikhil reported in the HDCD thread that HDCD>FLAC>Burrrn==HDCD, but the flag is in the LSB not the pretrack gaps or other tricky parts.
Sorry for not doing a proper search, but does the above workflow pass checksum, or only nearly so- as you indicated? Seems like I tried accurate ripping the copy and having it not work, but can't remember..

Burrrn doesn't currently support drive write offsets when burning, so it can't exactly copy a CD. That's seldom an issue for my purposes - even a drive with a fairly large write offset of 1000 samples will only be off 0.02 seconds.

Thanks, that makes sense.
I would feel more comfortable having something that satisfies accurate rip, if I'm going to consider it a true backup of the originals. Plus you made it sound pretty easy, so thx again.
