View Full Version : SB3's remote response is extremely slow and almost unusable

Dear all,

I got my ReadyNAS NV+ which has 1GB memory installed and 4 Seagate 320GB SATA to form a standard RAID5 disk array. Since the ReadyNAS comes with the newest firmware which already includes the SlimServer v6.5.1, I just need to ripped my CDs into the flac format and save them to ReadyNAS's media folder.

However, the SB3’s Remote response is extremely slow and painful when loading or jumping to next song track. For instance, it normally takes 20 to 30 seconds to load a lossless FLAC compressed music file before it can playback through my Squeezebox after pressing the Play key. When pressing the Next button on the remote, 15sec to 30sec waiting time is quite common. The scroll speed is sluggish too when browsing the music folder. Ironically, all above issues have never been found on my another slow P-III PC also acting as the SlimServer..

I only have less than hundred of CDs being stored and already waited more than 24 hours for full music scanning to be done, so COU resource consumed by scanning shouldn't be the case. I'd even tried the earlier ReadyNAS's p2 firmware build and found still no luck.

The user experience on ReadyNAS plus SlimServer is painful and really disappoint me. Hope someone here have the idea or trick to improve this performance issue or I will feel the money that I spent on ReadyNAS NV+ is complete wasted.

Thanks
Joe Wang

Note: the SlimServer font_pack was installed on my ReadyNAS NV+, and I use a DLINK Gigabit hub to connect both ReadNAS and SB3, but I don't think they would be the issues either.

I have an NV with 1Gb and the latest firmware - 3.01c1-p6 - and 10,000 Flac songs. The remote response is fine. Web browser is improved on previous versions but still not really usable day to day. I normally leave mine on random play and that has its own problems - 5 secs silence when manually moving forward a song and occasionally forgetting to update the random play list.

You can improve performance by making sure you have the minimum of plug-ins activated and Slimserver is the only service running on the NV.
