View Full Version : IR Receiver
I tried asking in the general forum where to get an ir receiver used on an SB2 but got no response. I though it might be better received in the DIY forum. Has anyone successfully moved the ir receiver off the display board or added a second one?
You should look in the wiki:

blkwrx is actually looking for the IR receiver, not an IR emitter.
It should be rather easy to unsolder the IR receiver from the board and put in an extender cable if that's what you want.
I've done this with dvd players and amps. A cable length of up to 30cm (1 ft) shouldn't pose any problem.
-s.
Thanks for the info. I haven't looked to see how its attached. I have to say I'm nervous I'll screw up the board and then it won't work at all. I've heard you can get replacement display boards. Is that still true?

You can probably just buy a new IR receiver module (38kHz) from Vishay or Siemens, etc. Then wire it up to the current one without unsoldering what you have now. You can probably even put a connector there so it can be unplugged.
They're all three pin, just make sure you wire them correctly.
IR Blaster is an emitter ?? I was sure it was a receiver. Sorry

That's what I was hoping... Thanks

It should, but you'd be ok with a TSOP1138 as well likely. It has a wider voltage range. I have no idea what the voltage of the part on the SB is. You need to look that up to confirm of course.
