Sure this is easy but I can't seem to browse to the NAS box in the Microsoft Windows Network using windows explorer.

I have XP Home SP2 installed and have my Workgroup name set as BG3K, the TS-101 is also in the same Workgroup and it's name is BG3KNAS.

I can set shares to my shared directories my using the IP address such as //192.168.1.2/music but I can't set the share as //BG3KNAS/music or as I said earlier see it in the Workgroup.

I can ping it through IP but not through computer name therefore I have come to the conclusion that my PC can't resolve the TS-101's computer name.

I have just managed to get the 'computer browser' service started but that still does not make any difference the only PC in the Microsoft Windows Network is my PC.

Any pointers would be appreciated as I'm trying to setup a backup facility by storing the backup image on the TS but the software can't browse to the NAS using the Network browse facility and I'm thinking its the same issue?

Do you have a Domain master on your network. If not you can set the TS-101 to do it.

I also had a similar problem. When I tried to browse my network to find my TS-101 it simply did not appear. It seems that Windows networking needs one device to be the Domain Master, to keep track of what services are available on the network.

I ticked the DomainMaster box under the Windows networking settings. It didn't fix it imediatly, I think I my have also had to restart my TS-101 (been a while can't quite remember). However I no longer have the same problem. Now whenever I browse my network the TS-101 is rite there.

Richard.

Hi Robert,

Yes, had that set, therefore the TS was the master broweser on the network. I can see other Win XP PC's on the network OK but it fails to pick up the NAS for some reason. I am using XP home which has some restrictions compared with Prof but I don't think it would be regarding networking?
