View Full Version : Connect to T-amp
Hi guys,
I have three sb2's now and two are connected to a T-amp amplifier.
I don't like the fact that the amps are powered up all the time.
I'd love it if the SB had a 12V output that was switched on, with power on. But I know it's only 5V coming in, so it would have to be an external switched power supply or such.
Do any of you know if this is done and how?
It would be cool to use the optical out as a light switch, but that thing is always on, so that won't work.
Anyway, please let me know what you think.

I got around this by switching them both off/on at the mains.
Hide a 2 socket extension & run the single cord to a plug/switch.
The SB asks if you want to alter network config on startup which annoys the hell out of me, but 4 seconds of patience is reqd.

See this bug regarding the optical output on/off:

Or this solution using the headphone output:

I think gonk at Outlaw is from TN and this gonk is from Scandanavia. Of course, he may have moved ;-)

Have you measured the power draw of your T-amps? My Sonic Impact draws a fraction of the power that the Squeezebox uses when music isn't playing. It's certainly far more efficient than my old mid-fi receivers.
Another option would be X-10 and my BottleRocket plugin.

Right, I've never been in TN or in the Outlaw forum...

you could always use something like this to turn it off remotely:
