View Full Version : The Ultimate SlimServer
Thumper - the Sun Fire x4500. In 4U you get about 21 terrabytes of file storage using 500GB drives. I figure that works out to about 50,000 or so Flac encoded albums. Dual dual-core Opterons should make SlimServer's web interface snappy, and probably keep several dozen of your Squeezeboxes fed. :-)

Another thought ... IBM mainframes run Linux these days ... and one mainframe can support thousands of independent Linux images ...
(yes, I work for IBM ... no, I don't sell mainframes)

I have enough trouble persuading my better half that a subwoofer is ok - imagine what she would say to parking one of these in front of the house, just to hold my music collection!!
