When I moved, the movers stole some of my belongings. Ever since, I haven't been able to find whole groups of things.

I thought they stole a good portion of my CD collection, but when I was looking for something else last night I stumbled across a horde of CDs! 28 CDs, some of which I've really missed.

Classic albums like Nirvana - Nevermind and Black Sabbath - Paranoid and fun albums like The Presidents of the United States of America (say what you like, but that album is fun!)

I also found some old-school techno: 808 State - ex:el and Gorgeous.

Funny, I used to like Gorgeous more than ex:el but ex:el sounds awesome on my SB3. Gorgeous is still good but ex:el just sounds better.

Ahh... I love 808 State :) Make sure you check out "Utd State 90" which has a bunch of really classic tracks including Pacific.

My interesting(?) 808 trivia : They did a collaboration with Rolf Harris(!) in the 90s. It was recorded in Sheffield at the Red Tape Studios and after it was done Rolf painted an awesome mural on the sidewall of the building featuring him, a didgeridoo and the 808 logo. It was still there last time I looked.

Oooh...here's a picture! Cool : http://www.bbc.co.uk/southyorkshire/features/secret_tour/rolf_harris.shtml

I should check to see if 808 State has made anything recently.

But yeah, it just all sounds really good. One thing I noticed is that both albums were properly mastered - *all* tracks have ReplayGain valies of +/- 0.5 dB. I'm comparing this to the newest album I ripped, Red Hot Chili Peppers Stadium Arcadium with RG values of -10 to -11 dB!

radish, incidentally, I remember you once writing that you are a Pet Shop Boys fan. Funny, I was once into them as well and still have the material to prove it:

"27 albums with 146 songs by 1 artist."

3 of them were in that cache.

I'm not into them as much these past few years, but I ripped it anyway, and there are some great remixes on the singles.

Same here - their last few albums haven't grabbed me as much but I'm not sure if that's their fault or mine :) Still, I have tickets to see them at Radio City Music Hall in a couple of weeks. Should be entertaining!

Two of the best remixes of theirs I remember were the KLF remix of So Hard and the "Base Mix" of Domino Dancing. I think Left To My Own Devices still wins my award for Best Use of an Orchestra on a pop record.

Well, having had my Squeezebox for about 7 weeks now, it is amazing how much my interest in music and energy for listening has increased. The simple matter of introducing the accessibility to music which the Squeezebox (and Transporter, if I had the budget) has allowed, has led me to rediscover my music collection and this is nothing short of astounding. Handling CDs and LPs ( I still don't mind playing my vinyl every now and again just for the sense of occasion and warmth of sound) is all well and good but for the lazy element in us a good remote which has access to every track seems to make every other option seem unlikely...nothing like rediscovering old favourites from Joni Mitchell or Tori Amos, not to mention MC 900 Foot Jesus!
