Getting started

I just received my squeezebox today and after hooking it up had no problem getting Pandora's music through my computer. What I couldn't get was my itunes. I called slim devices technical support, and the gentleman explained that I really wasn't in slim device, and that I needed to go to sign off.

Well I wasn't in front of my squeezebox atthe time, but when I did go to signoff it asks me for the slim servers IP address. It won't let me get past this. Am I missing something here? Thanks.

There are so many things that could be going on here, its hard to know where to start. If you haven't already, have a good read of http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?BeginnersGuide and the pages it leads to.

However, if you can listen to Pandora then this suggests that you have successfully connected your SB to your local network and from there on to the internet. Thats a good start.

Now you are trying to connect to iTunes... you are being asked for slimserver address ... so, can you confirm that you have installed Slimserver on a local computer? Ideally, the one running iTunes?

If Slimserver is installed and running (which version, exactly?) and your SB can't see it, it may be a firewall problem on the server.

You'll need to get these sorted before you move on to the next step of bringing itunes in.

When I first tried setting things up, I ran into the same issue. The squeeze box was asking for the slimserver IP address, rather than auto detecting it. When I checked the slimserver icon in the system tray, it showed "Slimserver Starting", but it never moved beyond that point.

I tried a few things, but others on this forum reported that removing and reinstalling the Slimserver software fixed the problem. That's what did the trick for me! Once the server software started properly, I didn't get the IP address input screen, and all was well!

Had to re-install slim server and it now starts up. I too was getting the perpetual 'Starting'
