Hello
Other than the Infrant NAV, is there any other solution to get the Slimserver installed on a NAS device? Not sure I can do the install myself on the Linkstation ( especially being on a Mac ).

Any tips or hints out there would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jerry

My other alternative would be to try to install the QNAP TS-101 myself. Any instructions for a Mac user?

Thanks

There is no documented way of getting Slimserver onto a Qnap not purchased from Progressive AV or their re-sellers unfortunitely.

I Paul from Progressive (ultra238a on here) has spoken about a version of the TS-101 firmware that would allow you to install SS on a unit that had never had it previously installed, but i've not heard anything more about it in a while. Might be work sending Paul a PM or email.

Lest this thread get buried.. can anyone sugggest a solution for a NAS drive with Slimserver other than the Infrant? I don't have the $$ for that kind of investment.

Thanks in advance

Last year, a user like yourself wanted slimserver on a Linkstation but hadn't the skills. After making a post looking for help, Robin Bowes answered and for a small fee (I think), installed slimserver remotely.

IIRC Robin did the installation on a Canadian system from the UK.

Try an e-mail or PM (although he hasn't posted anything since March).

Robin Bowes did the SS install on my 160G LSII. I'm in Massachusetts USA and allowed him to VNC into my system on numerous occasions. He's completely thorough, trustworthy, competent. He got 6.2.2 installed and running. Took us awhile with my particular situation; neither of us was sure why that was but in the end he got it and fixed a few minor probs that occurred after the install.

Totally recommended. His fee was well worth it.

Hello,
I emailed Paul privately about this but I got no response. I suppose he is busy and cannot responde on an individual basis.

I was wondering if he could make an official statement to the community on the timeline for the rollout of the product.

Thanks in advance

Sorry guys, been on paternity leave.

The self install package for Qnap TS-101/201 will be available in October for around $49/€39/£25. This will get you the install package, new firmware and on going support.

don't mean to complain and at the risk of being flamed but that's pretty steep for just an installation package.

I'm also waiting for this, but with the ongoing support part it looks like good value to me compared to the cost of the rest of the setup.

But as Paul said, it's NOT just an installation package. It's also new firmware and on-going support, and that support is worth a lot. If you don't think so, look at some of the threads where LinkStation users are having headaches getting 6.5 installed. Or look at the price of the Infrant units to see the cost of a supported alternative. Or don't buy the Qnap self-install package and do it on your own. This isn't a flame, just basic economics: if it doesn't look like good value to you, just don't buy it.

I totally agree with the previous poster. The price is very agreeable, I just need to have this product now! I've been without music in my home since we moved and I sold my desktop.

Paul, humble grovel to get this release out as soon as possible.

Thanks

If you buy the Qnap through the UK distribution channel, it does come ready to work with the SqueezeBox.

True, but it keeps trying to drive on the wrong side of the road....

It's mid October! I am ready for the self installed SS on the QNap! 6.3x or 6.5...
