Slimserver *still* not starting

just downloaded and installed slimserver 6.2.1 on hp laptop with xpsp2. this was an upgrade from something like 5.9.something or so.

when i tried to start slimserver, all i got was the flashing tray icon and the "slimserver starting" message (for a long time.) i tried to uninstall and reinstall, uninstall reboot and reinstall, reinstall without uninstalling, uninstall and reinstall to different directory, set the music directory to both the actual music directory (6500+ songs) and then an empty directory incase it was taking all that time to index the songs, and then i tried uninstalling rebooting, and turning off all firewall, antispyware and virus protection and reinstalling. no change.

i can run the slim executable (cli i guess? but i couldn't find any documentation on the cli, but thats for a different post) but i have not been able to get the gui to run on my machine.

any ideas would be *most* appreciated. thanks

Check Start - Run - 'services.msc'.

Find SlimServer. Right-click. If it's started, select Stop. Then select Properties and make sure it's set to either Automatic or Manual, not Disabled. Then press the Start button.

Also, note some anti-spyware programs prevent one program from launching another. SlimServer is trying to launch your browser. It may be being prevented from doing so.

When you get SlimServer running, start up a browser and point it to http://localhost:9000 or http://127.0.0.1:9000 to see the SlimServer GUI. That's all the tray icon is trying to do.

thanks for that. It actually didn't work right of the bat, i had to go in and change ownership of the process. for some reason it wouldn't start as "Local System", I had to take ownership and provide a password.

I have similar prob. I just got my new SB3 and loaded Slimserver
6.2.1 on my W2000 Laptop. While the SB seems to work fine thru
SN and the remote, Slimserver never starts. It is always
"Starting" only. I tried the 'services.msc' search and SLimserver
is never listed. I do have the Google Toolbar, so tried turning
off the popupblocker but still no go. Tray icon still
always just "Slimserver Starting"

Any ideas???

Try rerunning the install. Sounds like the service did not get setup correctly. This seems to occur rather frequently and reinstallation usually correct this.
